Most curly guys I know who tried straightening went back to curly. They figured out that girls will come up and comment on curly hair; not so much on straight hair.
Give it time, Mar.

That makes you an awesome curly Mom! You are being supportive of how he wants to see himself!
Geez, be glad he's interested in good grooming

I'm an even worse curly mom. I lied and told my 17 year old son that straightening his hair was impossible and not to even bother trying. It's not impossible. He has gorgeous bonde 3B curls that would probably straighten quite nicely. I just don't want to buy him a flat iron.

LOL...spoke too soon. My son no longer has gorgeous blonde 3b curls. He came home from swim practice tonight with a shaved head. Bald. Nothing there. He has a big swim meet on Friday...I guess having no hair will make him faster.
It definitely looks straight now...

Awww. Oh well in the grand scheme, it's more important to be supportive.

I know I love curly hair and I know flat-ironing is damaging to hair...but...it's just hair. Really. If he damages the heck out of it...it grows back. Hair is way too personal. I love it when people can embrace their own curls...but I know the reality is that some people hate their hair and want to change it...or maybe they don't hate it but they just want a change anyways.
Just be glad he didn't shave his head, like RCW's son. LOL

I don't care that my son shaved his head. You're right...it's just hair. I'm actually very happy that he did it at swim practice, rather than at home. Headshaving goes against my preventive-housekeeping philosophy.
