source.
It looked pretty bad, but what he did was actually more intense than I would have guessed.

I am so glad the authorities have the evidence to do what she won't/can't choose to do for herself. It is even nastier than what I had previously read.
And all the "you don't know what the relationship is like" codswallop is out the window, especially as the LAPD have confirmed that this was only the most recent time she had reported his violence towards her. And apparently each incident was worse than the one that it followed.
If he is convicted (and I hope they weed all the misogynists, Chris Brown stans, and wifebeater sympathisers out injury selection) at least she'll get 4 years to shake herself out of whatever kind of reverie he put her in.

The more I read about this the more sick I feel. I cant believe even if he gets convicted he will only get 8 months! That is just a joke. He should be jailed for years.

I'd be really surprised if he doesn't plead guilty in order to bargain for a reduced sentence. I'm betting that he gets probation and/or community service & mandotory anger management classes, although I really do think that he should spend some time in jail.
Seriously, for some reason, I really don't want to see this go to trial. I want him to plead guilty and accept his punishment. I mean, he's already issued an apology & we've seen photographic evidence that he beat her. I don't know what he could say in his defense.

Damn. That definitely doesn't sound like the first time. I know a lot of times abusers (gender nuetral) can be really charming at first. It's hard to adjust when they make the personality switch.
I think she knows what she needs to do because she called the police this time but she's hoping for change, especially since he's supposedly taking anger manegement classes now .

So wait...he got a booty call AND GOT CAUGHT and he flipped out on HER? Why? As a reaction to her understandable jealousy and finding out she may've been cheated on? Or was it maybe something else?

I don't think that people don't have ANY compassion for her, but she does have a choice in the matter, even if it's not the freest of choices. And like subbrock said, it comes down to the fact that she is making a choice inevitably lessening the sympathy.
I think, for example, drug addicts get much less sympathy than battered women when it is a lot harder for them to quit their behavior pattern. Both situations involve a degree of choice, and the latter moreso, IMO.
But to what I am getting as your general point; that on a whole society needs to be more supportive of women in this situation, I agree. I think that support should come from providing more avenues for women to leave these situations & more specialist support, especially when the women are aware enough to report what has happened to the police (as Rihanna apparently did on several previous occasions).
What's also necessary is tougher sanctions for perpetrators and dismantling the overall underlying belief in this society that it is sometimes justifiable to abuse your spouse/partner. I don't think that censoring how we view the choice to stay with such a partner is all that significant or helpful.

missed this part..
Even if you can't personally relate to the psychology of someone that puts up with an abuser, it's understandable why someone may if you think about how powerful the unhealthy emotions tying them are... like insecurity or mistaking love and not wanting to give up on something. But to ever be at the point where a stranger calls 911 for you because they heard your screams...it would seem THAT would be enough. No way, no how could that be the context for something good to come out of. Just guessing reality hasn't really set in with her, and when it does, she'll realize she has to move on from him. But it's probably really hard for reality to do it's thing when you've been hanging out at P Diddy's house..or whatever his name is at the moment.

I agree in not calling her stupid. You don't know what it's like until you are in the situation. I'm not saying I wouldn't drop his a$$ faster than he can sing "Forever", but you don't know until you walk a mile in someone's shoes.
