I'd like to hear about this, too, FC. Good topic.
Personally I'd like to know why you want to switch from an iPhone. I've been wanting one and now that they've release a new Kindle app for it I'm barely restraining myself (a whole library in my pocket all the time!!!!). My main reasons are cost and AT&T. I'm with verizon right now and they have better coverage where I am in the extreme NE (Southern Maine but I travel northwards quite often). It's trade in time for my phone so I've been shopping about.

Also, the touch keyboard is irritating in that it routinely selects the wrong letter so that my missives often read lyke dhis.
Neither of these examples are deal breakers per se.

Aside from those MINOR quirks, I LOVE my iphone, but I'd rather do business with T-mobile over ATT as I've always had great customer service from them and they have competitive rates. Plus, I have a classic video Ipod that I'm more than happy to use for my MP3 needs.

So, I have nothing against the Iphone on the whole it's just that a deal is presenting itself that would meet some personal preferences and it has me considering making a change.

I've been wondering this too, I'm with tmobile but my contract is up in May and Ive been wanting to switch to ATT ever since the Iphone 3g came out. It would be easier to stay with tmobile though. There are a lot of comparisons out there on the web..haven't gone through them thoroughly though and there doesnt seem to be a clearcut winner.
Thanks for the info. I think I'll probably just stick with verizon for a new phone and invest in an iPod touch (actually I'm hoping they'll run the same promo they did last back-to-school where if you order a new computer you get one free. I plan on teaching and in my state every 6th grader gets a macbook for school so a Mac is the way to go.) I think the Kindle app works for that too. Sure having my mp3s and phone all in the same place is convenient. But it's also a bigger pain in the butt if you lose it. I have an iPod nano first generation right now and use it all the time. I think a bigger iPod vs. investing in an actual Kindle is a better solution for me. that way I have my tunes AND a portable library (I never go anywhere without a book.)
I was with T-Mobile and considering the G1. The salesman at T-mo talked me out of the G1. The only thing I really remember him saying was that the battery life was awful. He had one and liked it but hate the battery life so planned to replace it. I ended up with the iPhone. I figure as long as I have a phone I love, I can put up with any service provider.

The only thing I'm having a problem with the iphone is that you can't send picture messages..that's so pathetic. You can email them..but not the same.
dark angel that is bit of a concern for me. the iphon battery last forever between chargings. When the T-mobile saleslady told me, with her voice full of pride, the the G1's battery lasted 5 hours I burst out, "Only??' and she launched into some lame excuse about how a cell phone should be a phone and not a mini-computer with applications that eat up all of the battery. Meanwhile I was thinking, "but the Iphone doesn't do that!"

We were with Verizon, and happy with it, when hubby and I got iPhones in late-November. The only things that bugs me about it are that we can't text photos and there is no good way to IM via MSN. Other than that, I love everything about it.

If I could IM, the photo thing wouldn't be a big deal.
MrsPoppers, take a look at BeejiveIm. You can use it IM through MSN.

I gave up on picture texts. I think you can send them if you jailbreak your phone but I haven't bothered yet.

The lack of copy and paste is what drives me absolutely insane.

i am planning on getting an i-phone soon. it will require me breaking my contract with sprint, which is gonna cost me. but i need a portable mini-computer.

i was worried about the touch screen & emails. but i saw a journalist friend file a short story on deadline using it, and i was sold. now that was impressive!

FWIW, I have a Blackberry Curve and I love it!

MacWorld is always in January, so I don't know about that rumor. They would have had to announce it at the last one, if it were to happen in 2009.

ETA: Here's an article I found about it. Not much to go on, but Engadget's usually a pretty good source.

I love my iPhone. I don't give a rip about any shortcomings, because every few weeks I learn that it can do something new that I didn't know about yet. Like tonight, I started using it as a remote control for running iTunes off of my laptop. Which was nice, since I was making flax seed gel and didn't want to get goop all over my keyboard.

FreeCurls, do you use autocorrect? I find that it fixes a lot of my typing mistakes for me pretty nicely.
