Who else doesn't like the beach/water/sun

I don't know and have never gotten why people enjoy going to the beach. And sitting under the hot sun. And just lying down with the hot sun hitting them. Or even worse, tanning.
And even if they don't tan, what exactly do they do? They just sit on blankets or whatever and stare into space. Under the hot sun. And they have to put on sunglasses or squint the whole time because of the sun. I just don't get it.

I also don't like snow. Or playing in snow. Or skiing. It's too cold. I can stay there longer than I would in the hot sun but not that long. It just gets boring and uncomfortable. I don't get people.

I don't any of that stuff either. I used to like swimming when I was a kid, but I grew out of it.

I love the beach, but dislike tanning intensely. So, I don't bake. I wear hats and sunglasses and I play in the surf a lot, and when I'm done with the water, I sit under an umbrella. I walk and collect shells too. I don't spend all day there...a couple hours and I'm done. The best thing about a beach vacation is the evening ocean breeze when you're on your way out to dinner. Drinking in an evening ocean breeze is fun too.

I HATE snow sports. Too cold. Skiing is stupid to me.

I can only take the beach for a couple of hours max. The sun pounding down on me gives me a headache and I cannot stand getting sand in my food and in my drinks. Then there's the little one trying to eat sand. Unfortunately, I married a man who loves the beach and can spend an entire day there. The kids are like that too. So we find ourselves on Fire Island every weekend, every summer. I'm getting out of it this summer because of the baby.

I'm a hang-out-by-the-pool-with-a-frosty-drink kind of gal.

I love the beach, but I get bored quickly too. I always have my snorkel gear with me, but when I'm not in the water I need my ipod, my cel phone, a couple of books, paper and pens to doodle and make lists, etc. etc. I tried to go without all my "gear".... I lasted about 15 minutes.

Medussa, my SO can stay out there all day as well. Even with all the junk I bring along, 2 hours is about my limit. We started taking separate cars, it's worked out MUCH better for the both of us.

This is mean, but I hate going to the beach with my kids - too much work. I dont mind if its just me to relax, unless its in the 90's, in which case I will pass.

I dont tan anymore tho, so I avoid the beach altogether.

I get bored if I just lay there. But I LOVE walking on the beach. It's so calming and relaxing. I could walk for hours, collect shells, look at beach houses. Hmm....I wish I lived close to the beach.

I like going to the beach and sitting under an umbrella to avoid the sun and reading a book. I'm not a big fan of the hot sun beating down on you either. And while I could use a tan I prefer to avoid it if possible.

I'm not a sun or beach girl either. A boyfriend took me on a cruise several years ago. I was the only person on the boat looking for shade.

I will go out in the sun during off-peak hours AND if I'm doing something (golfing, white water rafting, hiking, canoeing, swimming, etc.), but I would never ruin my skin just to lay out. I'd rather be inside reading a book.

I don't like sitting in the sun, but I do love sitting on the beach under an umbrella and reading. The beach is just so relaxing and I love the sounds and smells.

I love the sunshine...when I am sitting in the shade that is. I am paranoid of skin cancer and I like the colour of my skin the way it is. I do like the outdoors though...so if it is a nice day, I like to sit under a covered area with a smoothie and some music or a good book. Now...the beach? Humm...not really a fan. Plus, the water just reflects the sun back adding to my fears of sun damage. I'd much rather be doing something other than lying down in the great outdoors...

You are me. We're sharing a brain, lemme tell you. And I was raised at the beach - I'm from the NJ shore. I hate tanning - it's bad for you, and frankly, I look horrible with a tan. I'm full Italian on both sides, and even when I wear full sunblock, I burn to a crisp.

I never got the attraction of going to the beach and laying around like a baked potato. Why? What's the point? When I was a kid, if we went to the beach, I'd mooch $5 or so (this was the '70s, so $5 went a long way) and go up on the boardwalk. If the water was warm enough, I'd go for a swim. But sitting around on the sand for no good reason has never ever appealed to me. It's hot, it's miserable - can't stand it.

Now that's not to say I don't love the ocean and the beach under more bearable conditions - I do. Once everyone clears out for the day, there's nothing better than a walk on the beach at night.

I can enjoy the beach for a couple hours, but not all day. I find it relaxing, and sunny weather puts me in a good mood. I do need to bring a book or some kind of entertainment.

We live in the Midwest, and I don't go to the beach very often, and I've never taken my kids there. I don't think I'd like that very much. Maybe when they're older.

Y'all are crazy but I've noticed a lot of people dislike the beach(including most of my friends). I LOVE the beach. I'm in the water most of the time, love the water but it's gotta be good at least almost clear water I don't lay out much though unless I'm trying to nap. I like being the water most of the time. Waves are really fun too. I love the sun, and I like tanning a little(which I do easily and still need an umbrella or I get tooo dark) because I get a very nice bronze/caramel glow and it dries out my eczema and makes my skin look more like one color. The salt water is also great for my skin. My favorite is falling asleep on the beach, so relaxing. I so wish I lived closer to a beach

me too.....although i have to slather myself in SPF 30 so i don't burn (i'm half mexican so you'd THINK i'd have enough melanin in my skin so i don't burn right off the bat, but alas, NOPE). i find myself in the water most of the time and it does do wonders for my acne and the hyperpigmentation that comes as a result....i live in So Cal so i'm near a beach but i refuse to go to the beaches here - they're FILTHY and more often than not, contaminated. but, when i lived in FL, you could catch me & my oldest son there every single Sunday, weather permitting...

also i love how the sand would lightly exfoliate the bottoms of my feet....just another perk...

but i can understand why people don't enjoy the beach...i won't go so far as to say they're crazy...we all like what we like and don't like what we don't like...

That is so me. 5 beaches in Kuaii were a bit much for me. I love to camp, hike & fish.

It depends on the beach. In Northern California there's some areas on the Pacific coast that have really interesting character to them. The shorelines are rugged and the surrounding scenery is haunting. Not the typical beaches for sunning like in So Cal, although some of that is done in summer. My favorite thing to do is walk down a wide beach that turns into a narrow one where you have to start cliff climbing to get by. Will skip it if the tide is high

When it's foggy and grey, it feels like being in some surreal land.

The idea of going to a standard beach and sitting and laying in the sun sounds good to me as long as it's not crowded and there's good company or I have a good book, or to just think. It takes a lot for me to get hot and I like soaking in the sun...but I'd probably sit under an umbrella if spending a couple hours. Crowded and sun bearing down on you kind of hot doesn't sound appealing though.
