if we could add ourselves to someone's ignore list?

Eilonwy's comment about thread moderating got me thinking.

I could add my self to someone else's list. If that person tried to reply in one of my threads or quote me in someone else's thread, a pop up would tell them "This poster doesn't give a shi+ what you think. You can not reply to her or quote her. "

Yeah, maybe something nicer but you get the idea.

Just wishful thinking but, I would most certainly use that feature.

Oh, I think I was on some ignore lists WAAAY before that!

And that's okay, my ignore list actually came into use the other day. I never thought I'd use it, and always thought it was kinda dumb, but I am finding it works rather well.

Never thought of it. But I totally agree. It would have saved me a lot of futile arguments (among other things) by keeping me from responding to things a certain poster might say. If I can't or don't read it, I won't feel compelled to respond. I'm trying to self moderate by doing that.

You've only been here a month at most...and you've all ready had "futile arguments (among other things)?"

I think if I'd been here for a month and been thru that, I'd likely find a new place to post. I've been here 9 years, and the arguments come and go, I do think it's cyclic. But if only after a MONTH? Ugh. I'd leave.

I haven't been here even a month, but I wasn't just talking about this group/forum. I have been on several others since at least 2000 or 2001 and a was long term member of a few. One board got dismantled. Another board fell off and no one hardly posts there anymore. One board fell off when another board came into being and everyone moved over there. It got put up for sale, someone bought it and closed it. I got banned from another. On another board an administrator abandoned her/his board and all heck broke lose. The theme of that board totally changed and I think it's run by members of the KKK now (it was formerly a general race discussion board). And a few others are just very slow moving.

So I've had my fair share of arguments, discussions, debates, not-down-drag-outs, etc. Adding myself to someone's 'ignore' feature (and they couldn't remove me unless I removed myself) would have done me good.

That would be great idea in real life too. Soon as you saw me this message would pop into your head 'This person is on your ignore lists. She can see you but she can't hear you and you can't hear her. All arguments and discussions are futile. Try back later.'

or something like that.
