I need some help gaining weight

I've unintentionally lost a bit of weight recently which apart from turning me into a cranky snot has also made my ribs noticeable and I don't like it. I want to put the weight back on. I've tried eating more than normal, going to the gym less and doing less cardio (I wasn't mental with cardio to begin with) but nothing seems to be helping. I'm off to get some protein powder today to see if that helps me gain a bit of weight.

Does anyone have any suggestions of how else I can try to gain? Recipes, supplements etc. I know I need to eat more, it's just how to go about it.
Fat does not make you fat. It's actually pretty important.
There are weight gain proteins. I've taken them in the past and put a few pounds on. Weight training along with that helped too.

It's been quite a few years so I don't remember the name of the particular brand but I've seen others in GNC.

Everyone, stand back! I'll take it from here. I'm an expert in gaining weight.

Seriously though, how long have you been trying to gain? It can take a bit to show up. Eat more (simple) carbs. Pasta, potatoes, bread. Snack after dinner. What about creamy soups? Meats and poultry with the skin/fat left on. Cheese! Have dessert.

Fast food places. Hamburgers, fries, taco salads, etc. Not that healthy, but should help you gain weight.
From Michael Berg:

Every person has a unique connection to the Creator that can never be extinguished, and every person has a great soul that can manifest important things in our world. To make a person feel less than they are because of something inside themselves, be it faith, race, or sexual orientation, is the greatest sin of all."
My doctors have recommended ensure as a snack between meals when I am having problems gaining weight. There were a few food suggestions but I only remember avocado.

Peanut butter is very calorie dense and loaded with healthy fats. Avocados too.

Have a smoothie for a snack - mine are around 300 calories and you can make it even more by using full-fat yogurt instead of lowfat. I use 1/2 cup vanilla yogurt, 1/2 cup OJ, 1/2 cup frozen strawberries, and 1 banana. Sometimes I make it a "green smoothie" by adding 1/2 cup frozen spinach. Another tasty one is chocolate milk, a banana, a big hunk of peanut butter, and lots of ice. In fact, chocolate milk is great to drink anyway. Also 100% fruit juices, instead of water. Anything to get more calories in you.

i drank ensure plus 3 times a day and gained 7lbs. but it came on as lumpy fat.

another time i ate a big mac or double cheesebuger a day and once again became lumpy fat (cellulite).

working out and eating healthy i gained about 5 lbs but it took about 6 months. (cause working out at first made me lose weight)
McFlurries! Lol.

I've considered eating McDonalds and the like but it makes me gag. I was thinking of more healthy ways to gain!

I got some protein powder from Maximuscle that is specially designed for women.

You were given some great ideas here!

Definitely do NOT go the fast food route. If you're already feeling mood changes from weight loss, eating that food will affect you even more. Do continue strength training at the gym, and do enough cardio to still maintain a level of fitness.

Healthy higher calorie items are the way to go - some of the recommendations above, nuts, even the fats in salmon can be good for you and help! If you just increase portion size of the already healthy foods you want to eat, for the most part that will help.

I've managed to gain some weight in the last few years and keep it on. I added more healthy carbs to my daily eating. I eat carbs before working out.

You definitely want to add some calorie dense foods (high fiber, whole wheats carbs and protein like peanuts or other lean meats) to gain some weight. I started doing some light weight lifting. I eat a high carby snack before working out. This allows me to lift and gain muscle without burning off any fat.
Fastfood will make you gain weight but it'll be unhealthy weight.
I wouldn't recommend gaining weight by eating junk food. That sorta defeats the purpose of being healthy.

You've gotten some good suggestions above (avocado, peanut butter, smoothies). I also introduced whole milk back into my diet to give me extra calories and fat. I use it in my cereal, cappuccino, etc. and I eat full fat Greek yogurt for my daily sweet snack. Mmmmm.

Nuts might be good too.

Ice cream, and keep it coming.

Add carnation instant breakfast to your milk. It's a nice calorie boost. It helps my son gain weight.

More cheese and full-fat dairy, nuts and nut butters, beef and pork. Use real butter, good oils like olive and walnut oil, and full-fat salad dressings.

mmmm.... this is making me hungry!
I had the same issue you did 3 years ago.

I drank ensure or carnation instant breakfast in the morning. I gained weight slowly and it helped distribute it evenly.

I was kidding about the fast foods. They are definitely not healthy. I think your idea of a protein shake with or between meals will help. Just make sure the protein powder isn't loaded with a lot of sugar. Many of the products, ensure, boost, etc are high in sugar. That isn't healthy. You want a weight gain & be healthy too.
