oh, i so feel your pain.

i've stopped using the neti pot in favor of the NeilMed sinus squeeze bottle.
my acupuncturist recommended it. he says it has more pressure than the neti pot and really gets the gunk out. i find that it's a lot easier to use than the neti pot:

I wish I would have seen this before I bought my neti pot!

There are now neti pot mixtures specifically for stuff. Ayr has one and so does NeiMed. The only difference between a regular saline rinse and the NeiMed is they add sodium bicarbonate. So maybe add that to your salt rinse?

NeiMed neti Pot rinse

Here's an interesting product and write up. I like what they say about milk and milk products. I may get it

Sinus-Aide Herbal Rinse

thanks sbb. that is interesting. i'm not a milk drinker but i have had cheese daily in the last 3-4 days. if it's the cheese i would gladly give it up to not feel how i'm feeling right now. there is a vitamin shoppe near where i teach on wed. i'm going to see if they have this product.

I couldn't tell if this is similar to what you use, but I like Simply Saline: http://www.walgreens.com/store/produ...id=prod2630237

No nasty aftertaste, and I like the pressurized spray.

I like the Simply Saline a lot better than the plastic bottle ones. It seems to flush out my sinuses better, but it's still gentle. And again, no aftertaste.

Well, they do say dairy. I used to use Simply Saline before I switched to Neti, and I like Neti much better. I'll use SS if I'm on a plane.

The first time I used the neti pot it was great, but the next day it seemed like it went up to my brain lol I don't know what I did differently, because I seemed to be putting my head in the same position. So, I tried again the next day and the same thing happened. Maybe my nose was a little too clogged? I'm a little scared now.

you're not the first person i've heard say this. my acupuncturist says that this is because the neti pot doesn't have enough pressure to push the water through your sinus cavity. that's why i prefer the NeilMed. I can feel it working. It rushes the water up through and out your nose. Soooo much easier.

Gawd, I sound like a commercial.

Carry on...

I second (or third...or fourth?) NeilMed. The squeeze bottle is so much easier. Just be sure you use distilled water. I find that it's much more effective than tap water (though we live in a soft water area and my ENT recommended tap water filled up to the top of the word "NeilMed" on the bottle, as opposed to the dotted line at the top of the bottle). The distilled water solution seems more powerful to me. I rinse just about every morning and it's gotten rid of a lot of my sinus headaches too.

Default UPDATE

my mother went to the ent yesterday and he gave her meds for sinus too, including samples. so she shared.

she gave me 2 sprays - nasacort aq and astelin (stronger of the two), a pill decongestant (can't remember the name but it was STRONG and knocked me out) and a "recipe" for a nasal wash which was great.

recipe:
- 4 cups of warm water
- 2-3 heaping teaspoons on sea salt (more salt means more decongestant effects)
- 1 teaspoon of pure baking soda (buffers and makes the salt less irritating

i did half the recipe (on both sides) using my neti and it was GREAT. then i took the astelin (nasty aftertaste but following the wash it was really good). i went to bed with no pressure. i took the pill. i was a little tired this morning which my mother said might happen because the pill is so strong but i feel a LOT better. i was rushing this morning so i didn't do the wash but i have one of the other sprays that i'm about to use.

edt ** sbb i looked in my naturopathic book and it too mentioned dairy and alcohol and even caffiene as irritants.

thanks for all the suggestions!!!

I've used Astelin; it is effective.

Hope the meds and other advice works out.
