decisions, decisions
Would you rather attend a street beach party with loud music, food laden with possible botulism, lots of alcohol and smoking or a really nice dinner revolving around South African lobster or some other such shcrumtious thing?
Mr. Man's boss and boss's wife are taking us out Saturday and I get to choose between these two options. I don't smoke, have asthma and am allergic to tobacco. I've given up alcohol as well recently.
Which would you choose and why?

I choose beach party under the assumtion that I'm going with my wife and she couldn't stand anything fancy-schmancy. Also I don't do lobster but hey...that's just me. I don't smoke or drink that much either but loud music is always good.

No I haven't. That's the problem. I love lobster, but I want to go to the party. I LOVE beach music. But I hate being around all the smokers. This is one time I wish someone would just tell me where we are going and I'll tag along

If I was in your position, I think I would go for the dinner, due to your tobacco allergy and asthma.

How much do you like Mr. Man's boss and his wife? If it's the fancy dinner, you'll probably have to spend a lot of time having real conversations with them. If it's the beach party, the interaction will probably be greatly diffused.
Also, how bad is your tobacco allergy/asthma? Because honestly, if you're going to be visibly uncomfortable it will probably ruin the fun for the people you are with, and in that case I definitely suggest the dinner.

Yeah.
I deal for concerts, but crowds in general make me claustrophobic.
Besides, how often do you *really* get to dress up and be fancy when you have kids?

I voted fancy dinner. I like the quiet, and you can't beat a fancy dinner, especially if it's expensed.
Now, give me the beach, no smoking, and more quiet, and I'd be there.

I chose the street beach party. I love things like that - I like to just walk around and people watch. But I don't have asthma or allergies that would possibly make it hell.
I'm not a dress-up fancy schmancy kind of girl. We dress up once a year, for my husband's office party, which is always "cocktail attire". And that is plenty for me.

Now see, if it were the actual beach, there'd be no question. Beach would win. But asphalt and vendor tents? It just loses something in the translation
Oh, and we like them very much. They are so much fun! We travel with them for business every fall (to the beach!!! and we have a blast) and we do dinner every couple of months. They are so funny and they are really nice people. I wonder why they like US

I wouldn't care which of the 2 as long as I am going with people I know I will have a good time with.

I voted beach party, since the question was 'what would I do'. I drink a little, smoke alot, love loud music, like to be casual. Add some lobster to the beach party and it's just about perfect!
I also love to get dressed up occassionally, but I wouldn't want to go to some fancy dinner with my guy's boss and spouse (unless we were all close friends).
But for you, I would probably pick the dinner.
ETA Until you've had a good case of botulism, you don't know what you're missing!
