Ew. Okay, that's it. I am never going swimming again.

And this thread was started … why? Ignorance is bliss, people!

I have the same problem, and it makes it really quite inconvenient when I swim away from my friends to try and pee discreetly and I am sitting there, bobbing in the ocean motionless for minutes at a time, willing it to come out . . .

ETA: I do not pee in public pools. Ick!

Eh...I just figured everyone did it. I'm kinda happy to hear that not many do. I do swim first thing in the mornings for a reason...the pools are nice and clean and freshly chlorinated then, and very few people have been in it in the previous 12 hours, so it's nice and filtered.

Just a piece of trivia: Every drop of water on our earth has been through a person or animal at some point or another. Our water is finite. Our rain becomes our ground water and oceans, and becomes our rain again. Circle of life. We all drink pee.

I can't believe people are all grossed out and never thought of this before I always wonder if someone just finished taking a crap and their **** particles are floating around in the pool or if a woman is on her period and i'm swimming in her blood, or if the have festering wounds or some type of bacterial infection in special places LOL it's pretty freaking gross, but it's life...same with the ocean...

I can't say i've pee'd in the pool as an adult, the shower that's another story LOL

Wow after reading this, I think I will strictly stay in my own pool.....

I think they make a product for pools if someone pees in the pool the area will turn a color.. But I am not really sure about this... I know my daughter does not pee in my pool, she gets out and stands over drain, then rinses off.. So I think my pool is pee-pee free

To the bolded, yes some places do have a product in the pool so that if you pee in the water it turns a certain color & forms a ring around you (I believe).

To the OP: As a kid yes, as an adult no.

Heh...I'm sure that mysterious chemical kept many kids from peeing in the pool, but there is no such chemical. Your parents were lying to you:

Is this true?? I remember hearing it as a kid, but later always thought it was just a story to keep us from peeing in the pool

OK, gross. Pools are not for peeing. My grandfather had a pool and had silly signs about that.
Lakes and beaches, I expect people are. Avoid the warm spots, etc.
When I was swimming in high school, yeah, we spit, but we always made sure to spit into the side well area that goes to the filter. When you're working out in a pool for 2 hours at a time you get extra saliva and mucous. It's gross, but it's a fact of training.

And so, of course, your first instinct is to pee in it. Makes perfect sense. Because the people after you, they don't want a fresh clean pool as you do. No.

Most people, they like to swim in a nice mixture of chlorinated water and RCW's pee. It's preferable, really.

Well of course, it's all a big circle, we are all one, yadda, yadda, yadda.

But we're not, in fact, actually drinking something that has the chemical makeup of URINE. Come on, now!

Exactly what I was thinking. I haven't been in a pool in forever, but after this, I think I'm gonna prolong that indefinitely.
This.

dead skin cells
hair
fecal residue
mucus
underarm secretions (aka, liquid funk)
genital secretions
sweat
spit
lotion, oils, hair gels, hair conditioners

cesspools are generally oogie. what's a little urine added to the mix?

No, not first instinct. I don't do it every day. But if it's a choice between occasionally peeing in the pool and losing my lane to someone else...well, I'm not losing my lane.
