i voted i just dont care...b/c i really don't.

you're cordial to me, im cordial to you. you're rude to me, im rude to you. but i have no desire to become the race-relations crusader. if it didnt work when getting along was the mantra of the times...why would it work now? i concentrate on being a good person and to hell with all the issues that are out of my hands!

I try to live by the Golden Rule and treat others the way I would want to be treated regardless of race/ethnicity and etc.

I'm having a tough time picking an answer. Becaue when I am dealing with a person of whatever race, I am not thinking "I better be extra nice to Christina, in order to improve race relations". I'm thinking "Gee, Christina is nice and I like her" or "Gosh, Christina is kind of a *****. I'm gonn try to avoid her"

That's why I picked "just don't care".

I will always give people the benefit of the doubt in the beginning, after that, if we did not hit it off as friends, I will continue to be nice to them as long as they are nice to me. If they are rude, etc. I will most likely just avoid them all together.

Yes, ITA.

The only place I feel like I have to make an extra effort because of race is here.

You know, I didn't really give it much thought, and clicked "I try and I succeed." I think "I just don't care" would be a more appropriate answer. I don't put any extra effort towards anyone just because they might be of a particular race. And anyone who is walking around with a chip on their shoulder and feels they deserve such an effort- well, I do my best not to bother with them at all.

I agree with CGE, geeky and CMD on this one! I think of people based on who they are. I either like them or I don't. It has nothing to do with race; and it is so true for me that the only time it's an issue is here.

I totally agree with Geeky's statement, too.

And CMD comment, it's actually kinda funny...because we are all hiding behind computer screens anyways, and who really KNOWS what race someone is. I think that in terms of being here, I am more likely to say the latter parts of Geeky's statement, "Christina is really nice..." or "Wow, Christina is kinda a *****." Christina's actions would be more prominent here than her race.

I try. We would all benefit from improved race relations. I try to understand different cultural views and how different communities or individuals experience the world (it's the anthropologist in me).

Ditto. When I first saw I just don't care it struck me as I don't care about people of other races.

I like that.. triple ditto. But when I read it, I keep thinking it is "dipple ditto".... Hmm..

I also voted "I don't care" but not because I don't care about having a good relationship, but because of the reasons in my other post.

I don't feel the need to try any harder or any less to be friends with someone simply because they are of a different ethnicity. If they are good people, then I will treat them like good people.

Hee! Me too, but, have you read in hear? How can you not be hyper-sensitive to what some poster's races are?

I am not saying that is a bad thing, but, it is how it is. I find that race is much more likely to go unnoticed when there is an actual visual of someone, rather than reading their words. Perhaps, words are better geared toward race identification than eyesight in some cases.
