Default pickled beets

Do you like them?

I can eat enough of them to make myself physically ill. It's kind of sad, but not really. Is this a southern thing????

I was born and raised in the South, and I LOVE pickled beets! They go great with Thanksgiving dinner

Not a southern thing, I don't think. My very Irish, native New Englander Gramma made them all the time. Yum!

I have never tried them pickled. Being from Eastern Europe I eat plenty of beets in other forms - beet salad, borscht, beets and herring. And I do love them, esp. roasted. I tend to be picky about pickled things so I will either love or hate them, I bet.

They are the only pickled thing I will eat. Has anyone ever had Harvard Beets? Or is that just something my Gramma made up? They are sweet/sour beets. Yummy!

I voted no. I had a traumatic beet experience as a child and cannot stand the sight of them to this day.

Hmm. I thought I had tried beets in all its forms, but I've never tried 'em pickled. Wonder if I can get 'em here in Chicago.

Same here, althought I wasn't so fond of them as a kid I still ate one or two when my mother had them for dinner. They taste like dirt to me.

Love 'em!

My mom used to make pickled herring salad...herring in white wine/vinegar, potatoes, pickled beets, chopped hazelnuts, apples...yum! OK, everyone who wasn't German hated it.

I even pickled my own beets last summer, but they tasted just like Aunt Nellie's in the jar (which is so much easier).

I don't like them at all. I think they taste like nail polish. I got caught in Hurricane Wilma during my vacation and the hotel had made pickled beat sandwiches for us to eat. I'm thankful that we had food to eat during that time, but if I never see another pickled beat for as long as I live it will be too soon. yuck!

Love them. I grow my own beets and pickle them. The best part is the color! Beautiful. And they just don't taste as good if I use white beets.

ditto geeky - roasted beets are yummy.

You know, I haven't had them since I was a kid, but I remember liking them okay. I may have to try them again.

Nope, it's not a southern thing at all. Where I live people make pickled beets every fall. I love them.

I'm another Pittsburgh girl (living in OK) and I LOVE pickled beats. My mom always throws a couple of hard boiled eggs into the brine and they turn pink and are soooo yummy! We only have them at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
I can't wait...
