She was a pretty amazing lady. It would have been interesting if the 50s and 60s were as "tolerant" of women in politics as they are now. (Note: tolerant, not welcoming, unfortunately) She would have been great.

People die every summer. Winter, spring, and fall too. She was 88...it's not really so shocking.

I agree. They told us when she went into the hospital and this morning on the local news, every 5-10 minutes, the newscaster would don an appropriately serious face and say: "Eunice Kennedy Shriver... has died."

I realize she did quite a bit, but I found the repeated announcements over the top.

YES! Gemini I must have heard it on NBC4 here in DC like every 10 minutes! She was a awesome lady (and her husband was the co founder of the peace corps..I didn't know that) but she has been in ailing health for quite some time now.

I agree, had the 60s been more tolerant of women in politics, she would have been just as great or GREATER than her brothers!

So is Ted (who I think is the youngest) the lone surviving Kennedy of the original clan?

Yelp....same here. When I talk to my folks...I always get the "well you know Ms. SoandSo died the other day" or "I went to Mr Whatshisname's funeral today" announcements. I always feel weird when it's people that I KNOW are around thier age or people they were really close to.

Not really funny, but kinda....

Whenever I speak with my Oma I get a full run down on what was served at each funeral, who was there, who wasn't there, and how the people who weren't there shouldn't be surprised if no one shows up at their funerals

Yes.

No. There is still another sister living, Jean Kennedy Smith. She was the second youngest, just before Ted.

Dang it! Of course. (Is Teddy going to take away my "I'm a Democrat and proud of it" pin?)

Thanks, RCW.

This is a true story that you all will swear is a lie. I've worked with kids with special needs most of my career (speech therapy). One summer, I volunteered with the Special Olympics. In prep to volunteer, I encouraged parents to get kids involved. One mom said that her child couldn't participate in Special Olympics (I don't recall her child's problem) because it was a Kennedy program and she didn't want her child associated with anything 'Kennedy'.

Thank God for the work of Eunice Shriver and all of those who look out for the least of us.

Silly spammers, but made me smile at that story about my Oma! I had forgotten she did that
