(rant) does your have the pleasing smell of shampoo?

hell no mine doesn't! i am so pissed about it. this is not a race thread at all BUT when white girls pass me by sometimes their hair smells so delicious, you know like shampoo, but my hair...ugh! it always smells like coconut-chocolate-buttery-oily-medicine-sheen-glop.
why?? why can't black hair products smell beautifully fragrant like white hair products?? why can't my hair ever smell clean??
even when you smell curly girls hair, it usually smells like mousse or hair spray.
why do all our hair products smell like the same dang thing? coconut/butter/shea whatever. i'm so sick of it.
i want when i walk by to smell like i just stepped out of the shower like everybody else.

anyway, does your hair smell lovely like shampoo or do you have to add so many dang hair products to your hair in order to style it that it never smells completely clean.
mine smells like the pleasing scent of elucence mb conditioner. my SO often says, "wow your hair smells good!" even though we use the same stuff.
My hair usually smells like hair products, but I admit there are things that work pretty well but I won't use them based on smell. I can't help it. It's my HAIR, it's on my HEAD, which is pretty darn close to my nose. I just can't smell something I don't like all day long. Rusk makes some great products but they all smell so thick and gloppy.

I had a roommate who used this Aveda stuff when we were in college. I don't remember what it was, but it just had this cloying thick smell. Thinking about it makes me feel like I can't breathe. It just smelled like it would be gross and sticky and gloppy and like it would make your head sweat. Her hair looked amazing all the time, but I just couldn't bring myself to use that stuff.

Your products probably smell like they do because they smell like the stuff that's IN them. My products smell like the fragrance they're using to cover up the chemicals. It might not smell good to you, but I bet other people think they smell great.

The best smelling shampoo in the WORLD was some Revlon that they haven't made in ages. It was in big black bottles and I think it had "outrageous" in the name. Anyone remember that? They also made some "hair freshening" sprays - or something like that? I think one was hot and one was cold? Basically shampoo smelling perfume for hair for people who don't wash their hair often. Grunge was big at the time so I assume this stuff was pretty popular.
I was out last night and one of my friends told me my hair smelled good....like coconut. We were dancing and sweaty , so the scent was a little more, umm, out there
My hair smells like whatever I co-wash with, which I guess is the same concept. Currently it's V05 raspberry and it smells good

my hair usually smells like whatever conditioner I rinse out of it, which is Aubrey Organics. I only add more conditioner and oil to my hair when Im out of the shower and the oil has no scent. So yes, my hair smells like conditioner, I shampoo w/ baking soda.
there are plenty of products geared towards african americans that smell good. A lot of them are kind of pricey and can only be purchased via the internet though.

One of the best products I ever used was an Aveda product - my hair LOVED it, it worked great, but oh my God, it smelled - like Clever said, really heavy and cloying. I couldn't stand it so I had to quit using it.

I think shea butter is a nice scent but it can be awfully strong - too much of a good thing. I also think that in a product it would be a hard scent to cover up.

ETA: My hair smells like Aussie gel and hairspray. People sometimes comment on it which makes me a little nervous - how strong is the smell if you can smell it when you're about two feet from my head?

What are you talking about?!

I don't know if any of these are strictly black hair products (anymore) since so many white gals on the hair boards are falling for them.

I have Darcy's Botanical Curling Jelly & it smells so yummy. It's lemongrass.

I have Komaza Care Coconut Pudding & it smells so good I'm tempted to taste it.

There's Karen's Body Beautiful products you can choose the scent of. Mine is Coco Mango. It smells like it should be blended with ice & in a big glass!

Kinky Curly smells sort of sweet, but it's not as strong as the other products listed.

Afro Veda's butters are delicious smelling.

And there's Donna Marie. I can hardly wait to try the Mira Curls Curling Jelly, a change from Aloe Honey Curling Jelly.

What about Oyin Handmade Honey Hemp Conditioner?

I never think my hair smells good. I wouldn't say my hair smells bad either. If I could just shampoo and condition my hair would smell wonderful.

Sometimes it smells like ACV... gross, but this fades.

I think cocoa and shea butters smell good and "clean." I'm actually annoyed that my hair tends to smell like Suave Coconut Conditioner.

You could always just spray some fragrance in your hair.

CG, my sister loved the Outrageous line for its scent

I condition my hair almost every day and then style with aloe vera gel (odorless) so my hair usually smells like my conditioner. I don't smell anything, but my husband says it smells good. When I clarify with Apple cider vinegar, I smell like a salad until it evaporates.

I dislike when someone's hair is overscented--meaning I'm not right up next to that person's head to smell it--even too much of a good thing is still too much.

I also used a hair freshener. It was a clear bottle and the liquid was yellow...it worked great at covering up smokey bar smell (hey, it was college and sometimes I just rolled out of bed and went to class).

ETA: I found it. It was called Outrageous, just as you remembered. I used the red and black bottle. Great stuff.

i prefer unscented to low scented products...so i guess my hair has no smell.

a wonderful smelling shampoo/conditioner i used years ago came in an orange bottle, and the conditioner was a pale orange. it smelled so good, and i received lots of compliments when i used it. have no clue as to what the name is.

i found this...never heard of this product...but this website mentions something about wonderful smelling hair.

Even when I stopped pressing, simply using black hair products, my hair always smelled heavy and oily because the ingredients were heavy and oily. I also feel like they used a heavier, cloying fragrance as a "favor" since black women tend not to wash every day. I hate the smell and the effect oils and butters have on my hair, so I never use them. I only use fresh-smelling products, and omg how I detest fruity or foody-scented products. I use VO5 extra body conditioner--has a fresh, clean neutral scent. Conditioner and leave-in hair products are what fragrance your hair, not the shampoo. I also use KCCC because I HAVE to, but I hate the scent. My white SO loves itn tho. I haven't used black hair products in eons, so I don't know if there are any truly fresh-smelling new ones. I bought white tea body spray from Karen's to use in my hair between shampoos because it's very fresh, but they always screw up my order so I stopped ordering. If your hair doesn't mind oils, you could try the hair milk in that scent. I have some, and it smells divinely fresh, but my hair HATES the trace of oil in it, so I can't use it.
