Hopefully spidey & melloweer will chime in soon...
Yep we both live here.....our kids go to the same school even

Ask away! I'm born and raised Love Indy!!

What school is she looking at going to?
She is thinking of going to the Art Institute there. I would like to know how safe the city is. Is there a high crime rate? Do you know anything about the school itself? Such as location, etc? Can a young college student afford to live there? What's the weather like? LOL! I know I'm asking alot of questions, but I want all the details. Please feel free to throw in info on shopping and hair salons and good places to buy hair products/makeup!!!!! If she does move there I plan to be there ALOT Thanks
She'll be on the NW side of Indy....which is a very nice area. There's a lot of buisness offices in that area so a lot of professional people around. Lots of different food choices!!!

Indy is a safe city, yes it has it's fair share of bad areas but the her area isn't one of them. Shopping is great, you can hit up nearby Keystone at the Crossing. The area is a bit higher in cost to live then some other areas of the city. You do get a lot of choices though.

Where does she live now? I'm not sure how to tell you if she can afford it or not....it depends on some things. If she's in Cali or a coastal area, this city is CHEAP compared to! It's pretty affordable to rent an apartment here

The weather in a a nutshell: Spring is rainy, sometimes we can have many days in a row where all it does is rain. We do have tornados. Summer is from the 70's to 90's and BEAUTIFUL! Fall is georgous with all the fall colors in the trees, it's cool morning warm afternoons. Winter..well it sucks. It gets so cold sometimes your nose hairs freeze when you go outside. We get snow and when it dumps it dumps a lot.
Lots of good info! Thanks! Right now she lives at home(she is a senior in H.S.) we live in Kentucky. So it sounds like she would be close to stores, resturants, etc. How is the traffic around the city? I want her to be close to the things she will need.

Though, traffic will suck where she's at during rush hour because the NW side of town is crowded (a lot of people like that area). It's not anything really bad compared to Cali though. Major hospital and tons of businesses!
Not sure where the Art Institute is but the northwest side of Indy has a lot of great conveniences, a beautiful park (Eagle Creek) and as with most of this city, some diversity but also stability. Weatherwise not much different than KY (maybe cooler because it further north). I have family and friends on the nw side and have never really had any issues, especially outside of the 465 loop- near the area of Lafayette Square is probably the roughest, but that's several miles in.
Don't let your heart be broken. Let it love.
Thanks ladies!! I know it was said that you all get a fair amount of snow. I assume the city handles this well. In other words, I'm assuming it has to snow ALOT before it cripples the city?

Even schools have to get atleast 2 inches of snow and thats only cancelled if it effects the buses being able to drive safely. The city handles snow very well Plowers are out all night, we get a sand/salt mix put down when there's ice. As long as she knows how to drive with snow, which I'm sure she does in KY, then I wouldn't worry.
Melloweer you have been sooo helpful! Thank you so much
