Didn't you know? That's what all SAHM do. How do you think daytime TV and Chocolate makers stay in business?
No it's not a fair question. Besides what do you know about their choices. She and her husband have more than likely discussed the working mom vs the SAHM issue. If this works for them and he is willing to do this it's not your place to judge. She's asking how to help him so he can help their family. If she were to say oh well too F'n bad let him figure it out, we'd be saying she's being selfish.
As for daycare- 4 kids in daycare is not cheap. What's the point of her working and missing out on her kids if is so much of their income is going to daycare? Relatives? They aren't free babysitters, they need to get paid too.
Way to start out on a board. Blasting someones choices doesn't make a good first impression. Not cool, at all.

My husband's drive is 1 hour, 10 min. each way. Mine is 45 minutes each way. We like audio books a lot.
I'm not sure what type of books your husband likes, but here are a few suggestions:
Michael Connelly (The Harry Bosch series).
http://www.michaelconnelly.com/
James Patterson (Alex Cross series)
Patricia Cornwell (Kay Scarpetta series)
Duma Key by Stephen King is really good. (It's different than the norm Stephen King).
Dean Koontz (Odd Thomas series). My husband likes this series a lot. I couldn't get into it.
The first three are detective/suspense novels. Duma Key is not. Odd Thomas is suspenseful. Listening to the audio books makes the drive go by so fast. Sometimes, I don't want to get out of the car when I get to work!
My husband also listened to Learn Spanish with Rosetta Stone CD's. His company is Spanish owned and he might be making a trip to Spain. He thought it might be a good idea to learn some Spanish.

Don't mess with us seniors - it doesn't take too much to convince us we have "old timers"!
Actually, I just saw the Vitamin C thread, so I get it.
