I will be doing my Pre-CHL soon in prep for my CHL in Jan.
I am currently scoping out the H&K P30 & Springfield XD, Glock 19. These are all compacts.
The H&K P30 is twice as much as the Glock, but boy does it feel good in my left hand. Apparently being a south paw is tricky?! Who knew?
What do y'all like/have?
At the Pre-CHL, I will be testing out a few guns, so I guess we shall see. I want the most accurate one with the least amount of kick.

My husband just past his pistol instructor course. He can now certify other people and give handgun training.
BTW my hubby has a 45.

Has anyone upgraded or gotten one?
Hubby got a new Ruger.
I still have my Sig.
Hubby still has his Springfield.
I couldn't justify the cost of the H&K, but boy was it nice in my southpaw!
Can't wait to go shooting soon!

I hate my husband's Glock 30 .45 My husband can hit a dime so I know it's not the gun that's inaccurate.
I don't like it. tho. It's too lightweight for me and since the magazine is a double stack, it doesn't fit in my hand.
We also have a Baretta 9mm, Colt 1911 .45 and my baby, a Kimber 1911 .45 stainless Pro Carry II.
We also have a combat shotgun and some rifles.
I'm right handed but left eye dominant so I normally shoot left handed- it's easier. My daughter is left handed and shoots great too. She just mirrors what my husband teaches her. Some righties think being a lefty is just so crazy. Even had a doctor tell her that being left handed puts more stress on her elbow than if she was right handed (she hurt her elbow playing softball). Her former major league baseball pitcher coach never heard such a thing. Physical therapist called BS too. Anyways... where I live it's difficult to get a concealed carry license. DH can carry but I can't.
We don't shoot nearly enough. So busy with the kids' schedules that there's very little time for anything else. One day tho...

Wow, old thread! I may have to amend my response.. I might like to learn how to use a gun, but not own one. Do you have to own a gun to get a concealed weapons license?

Yes, you do. In CA, the concealed permit (CCW) is for a particular gun.. you're not allowed just to carry any gun you choose. You are tested and are given permission to conceal carry a specific gun. So if you want to carry different guns, you have to be tested and the permit has to list those guns also.
Not sure why one would need/want a CCW and not own a gun.
But you can own a gun and not need a CCW

i would like to know how to use a gun. My issue is my fear of guns. I saw a friend a few years back in his cop uniform, he had to put is gun in the truck before i even hugged him. As a kid i played with toy guns and even shot a bb gun. I even wanted one when i got older. i had always planned to join the army so i could get the best training.
now i dont like them at all. a friend has offered to take me shooting, he's in the army and has a small arsenol. i trust him fully, but i'm worried, i will have a full on anxiety attack and have a heart attack.
i just hope the zombie apocalypse doesn't occur before i get over this irrational fear. i did to man up and get over it!

Here is what it is in Tejas..
42. Will I need to have a gun before I begin my training class?
Some instructors may require you to use your own gun during the firing range portion of instruction and testing. However, others may provide guns for you to use. The concealed handgun license issued by DPS is not associated with a specific gun. However, the license is specific to the type of gun action, semi-automatic or non-semi-automatic.
