Seizure

Yeah, I had one. We don't know what caused it, but most likely it was medication induced. I get to go see my primary care physician and a cardiologist since my EKG was abnormal somehow. The CT scan was fine. Anybody who has had a similar experience? Anybody who might have some tips and tricks? I can't drive now thanks to the seizure and they made me stop taking all my medications until I see my primary care and the cardiologist. Any information would be greatly helpful!

This area is under construction as my hair type changed and nothing works well for me. I shampoo, I condition and pretty much have done nothing but chuck my hair in a messy bun for the past oh...year? Yeah, I'm that lazy.

No...going no-poo or CG does not work for me. It leaves me overconditioned and oily in a second no matter what I use, so that's not what's not working.
wow, scary! what happened? how did you know it was a seizure? were you alone when it happened?
are you getting in to see them tomorrow? I'm sorry I don't have any advice to offer you, I've never had one. Though do get lightheaded and faintish probably 70% of the time I stand up. My ecg was weird too, though it's been a few years since I had it done. I believe it had something to do with a slowed sinoatrial node? Commonly found on those who exercise regularly, my brain is a fog and I can't remember exact details of either "diagnosis". You are pretty active aren't you? Maybe it has something to do with that.
Hope you get some answers and relief (physically and mentally) soon!

I picked my sister up from the hospital, she was being released after having a cesarean section and I was the only one available to take her home. We arrived at her house and i put her husbands suit jacket on the piano and that's the last thing I remember until she was hollering at me that I had had a seizure, full blown...foam coming out of my mouth and my body all rigid for about 60 seconds. The next thing I remember the paramedics were there and they were carting me off to the hospital.

Every muscle in my body hurts. Including my tongue, jaw and every muscle I didn't know existed. I'm walking around like a 90 year old granny and I'm 30!

I am doing my best to get an appointment scheduled for tomorrow since my parents are going out of town Tuesday and I'll be alone without being able to drive We'll see. It was frustrating and scary all at once and it's not like I stood up too fast, there were no sudden movements that would cause this. Who knows...I'm hoping I get an answer tomorrow. They've cut off all my medication until I see the correct people and determine what needs to be done. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if I end up seeing my primary care, cardiologist and neurologist.

Wow, that is so scary. I don't have any advice, but I do hope you get some answers (and of the good-news variety) quickly. Take care of yourself.
SunshineGirl, I am so sorry you are going through this! It does sound like a tonic-clonic (grand mal) seizure, but I'm not an expert. My daughter started having seizures two years ago. I don't want to discourage you, but it took a few weeks to get a diagnosis. However, her seizures were not TC, but partial-complex, which can me a little more difficult to identify, so we went through the pediatrician, then a cardiologist, before seeing the neurologist. I don't know how much research you want to do before seeing your doc, but I found epilepsyfoundation.org to be very helpful. I wish you all the best, and please keep us posted on what happens.

I wanted to add that sometimes a little info can be too much info. During the diagnosis period, I was doing plenty of research, and the websites and message boards are great, but one warning: a lot of times the people who post are those who are having the worst time with seizure disorders. Also, it is possible for a person to have just one seizure and never have another. I just don't want you to get worried or discouraged if you do find yourself researching before you get in to see your doc.

so sorry you went thru this.

A couple of years ago, I was on vacation with my boyfriend a couple years ago and I woke up to find him in the middle of a grand mal seizure. It was VERY scary. he had a bunch of tests and they couldn't find anything wrong with him. He had a couple more seizures over the next year and just as unexpectedly as they came, they stopped.

I know it's scary, but try not to worry. Also, make sure those around you know what to do if it ever happens again.

I hope it was just your medicine and they can find you something else to take.

oh, and get some rest. being really sore afterward (and sleeping the entire day) is common.
Wow, so sorry! hopefully you get some answers soon.

So scary - I'm sorry you're having to deal with this. Do see a neurologist ASAP, not just your cardiologist/primary care physician. They need to rule out any major causes of seizures before deciding it's due to medications or unknown reasons...

My sister had a grand mal seizure about a year and a half ago. They found she had a (benign) malformation of blood vessals in her brain that they thought was the cause. She has not had another seizure and feels fine.

One thing I did learn from her experience was to work with the neurologist to find the right medication. She was on a couple of different meds, both of which caused some problems, before switching to a third that is right for her. Switching meds is time consuming (because you don't just stop one and start the other, you have to taper one down while tapering the new one up), and the doctor might not want to take the time to do it, but it made a huge difference for her.
I know nothing about seizures, so I will just say take care, get well soon and I hope you quickly find out what's wrong.

Oh no, I'm so sorry that happened. Keeping my fingers crossed that you get answers soon.

I would definitely encourage you to see a neurologist. I'm definitely more knowledgeable about childhood seizure disorders (and seizures) than those in adults... but it may be appropriate to seek input from a neurologist.
I know in children a MRI is the gold standard among neurologists.. even if a CT has been done they still want to see a MRI.

I'm sorry you're experiencing this.

EKC and CT were definitely done. I called to get an appointment with the cardiologist and it didn't get anywhere. They scheduled me for either next week sometime or next month sometime. Either way, it was unexceptable for my primary care doctor, so she seeing what she can do to get that moved up. The only problem is that my parents go out of town tormorrow and don't get back in town for a week. I think the inability to drive is going to be my challenge since I'm used to being able to drive wherever I want and that is no longer an option. They determined the MRI wasn't needed because the CT was normal.

As far as the CT being normal... The pediatric neurologists I know would also want a MRI, and they would want to read it themselves (not just go by the radiologists report).

**Disclaimer: I know Peds medicine, not Adult... and I'm not a neurologist, just have worked a lot in pediatric neurology.

I hope answers come soon!

I would push for an MRI and not just assume a negative CT means all is well. MRI is the standard when evaluating adults for first-time seizures. Your neurologist will insist on one.
