I think it would be nice to give it for xmas, so she has a chance to wear it around, and be admired by, her fellow classmates.

rcw, that's what i was thinking. kind of like when you were in high school you got a class ring. the ring was more significant in your senior year than after you graduated.

I would want it for Christmas so I could show it off.

@Frau--you get your class rings as early as sophomore year. I think its a tad bit early, but to each his own I guess.....

I'd definitely give it now so she can enjoy it during her senior year. I think you tend not to wear stuff like that as much after school is over (like a class ring), so she'd probably get a lot of wear out of it now.
