TOTALLY agree. I mean honestly. It's Facebook. People post what they want to post. That's the beauty of it. If you don't like what that person is posting, then block them.

I personally am annoyed by all those idiotic "gifts" people send, but I just ignore them. It isn't THAT big of a deal.

There are people who love sending gifts and if you have just a handful of these people on your friends list, it can take up your entire page. I think there's an option for blocking those things. Either through hiding them or blocking the application.

Mizkerri, your dishes look so good. You should be proud!

That's kind of different. I mean, spending the time to make something new, and then wanting to show off the new dish you made is different than taking a picture of the nachos you're about to dig into at Chili's.

You can go into your privacy settings and set "Tagged Photos of You" to visible to "only me." That way, no one else sees them. I noticed that when I tried to tag some of my son's friends pics the other night, it said "tag request" next to the person's name who I was trying to tag. I haven't looked to see if the request was accepted, but I've never seen that before, then, again, I've never tried to tag someone else in someone else's picture before.

Thanks, GP! I'll try that.

Then don't become a 'fan' of it!!

Let's think about this one. It's a public internet page used to alert people you know to things or situations in life. If you don't want these people to know then don't put it up there.
Gee, is it possible that I want to be a fan of something for my benefit and I don't want the entire world to know? Yes, that's possible. I'm sure that will happen one day on FB. I can't be the only one who feels that way.
Yeah, I know what you mean...you want to be able to get updates and everything, but not have it be listed on your page.

Wait...does that mean they will only be visible on your page? Even if the person who posted them has them on their page? Wouldn't it just make it so the original person had them up, but when people went to the tagged person's page, they couldn't see them there? For instance (in case I'm not being clear b/c I feel like I'm not ) If Afrosheenqueen tags me and I make it so its only visible by me, it won't show up on my page to visitors. But when ppl go to her page, won't they be able to see it? I always untag myself, but it bothers me that they're still on the original person's page.

I haven't tried it out, but I think that's correct. You can't really control what someone else puts on their page, but many of my friends are not friends of my other friends, so they wouldn't see it anyway. It may remove your name tag from the pic also, so if it's an old pic, they may not be able to recognize you. I just don't know for sure because I don't have my tagged photos set for "only me."

So I'm trying not to be one of those people who complains everytime FB changes its format, but... I spent a lot of time setting up friend lists, and moving them around on the left hand side of my home page, so that I could filter which items I look at in the news feed (and sort of look at them in groups, rather than having to scroll through everything all at once). And now -- Gone. All of them. I'm back to scrolling through an endless list of who friended who, who liked what, who just scratched their a**, etc. etc. etc. Damn!

I love food, so I post pictures of it. Usually it's at restaurants or stuff my bf made. Sunday I actually made chili for the superbowl and posted that along with everything else, along with my drink and yes my patron bottle!

No, no, xcptnl. I'm always eager to know your a**-scratching status! (ok... um, so, THAT just sounded weird. Sorry!)

But seriously, it's not anybody here. And as others have said, the whole point is for people to post whatever they want! But I used to be able to sort so that I could JUST look at status updates, or JUST look at links, so that I could see a few things at a time, and not have to sort through all the "friendings" to find the REAL content. I could also look at groups of friends at a time, so I could see what the "curlies" are up to, and then what the "high school friends" are up to, and so on. On my little netbook, it's hard to scroll through all of that! (whine! I know; it's hard being me.....)

Oops. I just figured it out. It's all still there -- I just have to click on "friends" on the left-hand side.

Never mind. Forgive my premature rant.

I just got the new fb layout, I hate it. I couldn't even find the logout button until one of my friends told me where it was. I don't think the logout button should be hidden like that.

Whew-I thought you might unfriend me and not tell me. And I totally understand the netbook comment. But oh, how I love my netbook.

On the other hand-I do not have enough friends to sort them. Ok...off to update my a**scratching status.

How did you create these lists? And do you have different news feeds for each group?

There's a certain curly who posts pictures of the amazing stuff she cooks and she links the recipes. It bothers me in the sense that it just makes me jealous and sometimes hungry! I get great ideas from her.

ETA: I get great ideas for dishes hubby can cook for me!
I was just thinking the same thing. I love seeing her food pics.

How did you create these lists? And do you have different news feeds for each group?
Well, it's possible that this has changed, because I just tried to do it and it wasn't working. But the way I used to do it is:

To create friend lists:
  • Go to the list that shows all of your friends (there's more than one way to get to it)
  • Click on "create new list"
  • Type in the name of the list
  • Type in friends' names to add them to the list.
  • Once the lists exist, it is easy to add additional friends to them, from this same list of all friends.
To look at news feeds:
  • As you look at your news feed from the home page, you should see menu items listed below "News Feed."
  • Click on "Friends". It should show your friend lists.
  • As you click on each friends' list, your news feed should change, only showing posts by people in that list.
There used to be menu items for "links" and 'status updates," so that you just look at those, as well. Those seem to be gone, however.

It was the "create friend lists" step that seemed all screwy when I checked it awhile ago. Maybe just a glitch?

hth!
