I didn't say I'm perfect. Far from it. But at least most of my posts aren't negative.

Peppy...I was being IRONIC...because you tend to preach to everyone else.
I see now that you just don't get subtle nuance of conversation and I'm going to have to explain things as if I was talking to one of my little kids. You mistake passion about a particular subject as "negative". I have a passion about birth and the way women are treated by the birth industry in this country. I think they are treated negatively. That's really the only subject I have posted about with any degree of negativity. But, you are so defensive (or just blinded by your own issues), that you have now transposed that into all messages you read from me.
Here's a suggestion...try reading me for content on specific topics without the preconceived prejudices about my opinions on birth. Thanks.

It's not just about birth. What gave you that idea?
I'm not the first person to call you on your snarkiness. And it hasn't been just about birth. I don't read all the birth threads, so I really don't know your position on that.

RCW, I have to say this. I agree with you in substance about the birth industry and it is a passionate subject of mine also. But I have noticed that a huge number of your posts on that topic and other topics are filled with negativity, ad hominem attacks, intolerance and general nastiness. This thread not excluded.
Now I am eagerly waiting for you to tell me I am part of the bandwagon mentality and I lack the intelligence to pick up on the subtle distinctions of your posts.

Right now I'm using Purex HE from the grocery store, but will probably switch to Tide HE when I finish this bottle because Tide is the only HE available at my local Sam's Club. I know, I know, everyone on here told me I didn't need the special HE detergent but I'm a sucker. I use fabric softener from the dollar store.

Last night I was at the grocery store.....ALL detergent was on sale VERY cheap....I stared at it.......thought of everyones posts.......looked over at the Tide Coldwater........looked back at the All......got a very sad feeling and just walked away. I didn't know what to do. Is this was middle age is all about? Getting sad about laundry detergent and not knowing what to do? I know I have bigger problems in my life. Now I'm getting even sadder because I know this will stay on my mind until I make a decision on what to do.
Wait, the story gets better............
So, this morning I put a load of towels, wash cloths, dish rags in the washer........stared at the hot and cold water settings.......settled on warm. Whew....one decision down. Then, I stared at the bleach bottle........and finally decided to use 'some', but not as much as normal....about half.
I am a sad and pathetic laundry obsessed person
I wonder what my problem will be tomorrow.....probably back to my hair

No.
Enough is enough.
I refuse to become a laundry PJ! You hear me?!
As for bugs and germs, I have read that you should wash your underwear separately from everything else, and your kitchen towels separately from everything else. Sigh. Also, I very much doubt that bleach would kill bedbugs, unless you really let your laundry soak in pure bleach and that would ruin the fabric.
We have 2 big dogs and didn't use Frontline. Heh. Brought them to the community garden once, they came home dripping with ticks. Ticks crawling up the walls. Ticks on the bedding. Ticks CRAWLING OUT OF THE WASHING MACHINE and that water sink thingie that the washer drains into. This was so very much not my beautiful house and not my beautiful life.
We use Frontline now. Oh and btw the dogs have their OWN towels and their OWN bedding that goes in its OWN load .

P.S. We own 6 dogs in Wisconsin - MUST USE FRONTLINE!!!

Apparently the best is to do your underwear in a separate load, make it the last load, and follow it with an empty load (rinse) with bleach.
Here are some links, not for the faint-hearted:
NY Time Article on Dr. Gerba, laundry, & bacteria
The Straight Dope
Disgusting laundry habits of others, hee hee, from garden web
Also found a 130+ page European study (linked in the disgusting habits) on laundry hygiene. I'm optimistically thinking that the hygiene guidelines are mainly for those with impaired immune systems!

Thank you Castella. I am happy and content with my laundry obsession! I will continue on......ok, I may find cheaper detergent than Tide, but the rest of my routine STAYS!
The rest is all good, my toothbrush has ALWAYS been in the cabinet (taught by my mother). In fact, we put the lid on the toilet down before flushing and it stays down (except for when in use). That started when I got a bird as a teenager. Pet store lady said it could fly in and drown! Always has been a habit! I use a new dish rag everyday - taught to me by FlyLady ( www.flylady.net).
*happily skipping and smiling about being a clean freak*
Ok, now I sound like just a freak. I'm not. Not a germ-a-phobe. Hello, I have six dogs and 3 cats, 2 kids and a hard working man. House gets messy and kids don't always wash their hands. Dogs lick their butts! Cats go outside and then come in and lay on the kitchen table - I don't shoo them off. *wiping brow with relief that I have redeemed myself by telling my dirty cat story*

Most houses do not have bed bugs, tho they are a growing problem like roaches. Every single house does have dust mites, which are bugs. Having either of these in your house has nothing to do with how you do your laundry. No matter what you do you won't get rid of the bugs in your house. That's supposed to make you all feel better, not worse, by the way. Not sure if it came out that way or not.
But then, who's going to believe me since I don't wash anything separately, don't use hot water, don't use bleach. But I have managed to make it almost 50 years without any problems caused by my casual laundry practices.
