It is a bit of an odd question. Sicilians do have a minor amount of Greek blood in them, especially in Eastern Sicily. But beyond that there isn't really a definitive set of physical characteristics among Sicilians and Greeks. They all come in different shapes, sizes and complexions. My father is 100% Sicilian and he gets mistaken for being Arab. I am 50% Sicilian and I get mistaken for being Romanian or Israeli. If you're speaking in stereotypes, I guess some Sicilians could also pass as Greek, Georgian, Lebonese, or Armenian. But then I've seen Sicilians who are as light-haired and fair-skinned as the French.

I think it might be more appropriate to ask if there are any cultural and linguistic similarities between Sicilians (and other southern Italians) and Greeks. The answer to that is "yes, definiately."

By the way, modern Sicilians are descended from the French, Germans, Romans, Arabs, African, English, Greeks, Spaniards and others. Modern Greeks are descended from ancient Greeks, Serbians, Turks, Albanians, Armenians, Macedonians, and so on. Then again, as I understand it, all of humanity originated in Africa, so we're all related in some way in the end.

I think it's a real question. Egyptiancurls is very fixated on her physical appearance. There have been whole threads about the genetic origination of her eyelashes.

LOL! I heard some Sicilians have some african ancestry because of when the Moors of Arab and African ancestry invaded... frankly.. it might explain some things.. but I think most Italians would highly object that they have ANY "negro" blood.

These days it's not so easy to tell what anyone is just by looking at them... I mean no offense Egyptiancurls but if that's you in your pic.. I hardly would think "Egyptian". So go figure.. but there you have it in your siggy that you are "are Egyptian".

Seriously, that is an important point and I am glad you made it. Many people approach history in a very curious way - often as though Africa simply did not exist or had no historical contact with, or contribution to, the rest of the world.

I, personally, think it's fascinating that I might have some smidgeon of African and Arab blood in me. Then again, I think I have the entire world flowing through my veins.

P.S. - I will edit my original post to include African.

I don't really know the answer to egyptiancurls' question, though. Can't say about Greeks, but Sicilians will have varying phenotypes just like every other ethnic group. I'm just curious to know...why are you "just curious" about this subject?

Well I am not an afrocentric fanatic by any stretch of the imagination but I do find it rather laughable that everytime there is even the slightest hint that Africans may have invented something, mixed with a group, or may have had a thought before a European group... it's sort of denied almost immediately.

I think it all comes from European travelers visiting a certain part of Africa...reporting back that these people were living in huts, uncivilized, and not as "evolved" and a lot of people got this idea that that's all Africa ever was.. a bunch of blacks living primatively and dumb as hell. I mean you can even see it in America culture.. blacks are often portrayed (often even among themselves) as a bunch of buffoons that have to be helped by "others" to achieve. And well people don't want to be associated with that sort of thing least of all the fact that blacks were slaves so I am not suprised by the denial.

Scientists are reluctant as HELL to say Egyptians were originally a people of color. And I think if people are truly honest..they know why. Egyptians were NOT a bunch of people living in huts nor were they dumb. They were a very evolved people. So either Africans are dumb as hell living in huts and can't learn ish or they can be evolved and advanced.

I mean they go all around Robin Hood's shed to say they are ... "something else"...which to me implies that they just can't believe a negro would be so advanced. Then you see people today that look less African living in Egyptian (as if the hell race mixing didn't have anything to do with that) being touted as who Egyptians have always been so it's easy to string a theory. And then we get into this whole "black Africa" thing.. where "North Africans" are not black and yada yada..

Anyway.. let me get off my soap box.. sorry I blew up your thread Egyptiancurls. I know you are like.. "Damn.. all I asked about were Greeks and Italians".. LOL!
I forgot to mention one thing. Centuries ago Sicily was divided into two cultural spheres: the Arab/African Muslim sphere in the west and the Greek/Slavic Byzantine sphere in the east. Sicilians who hail from western Sicily probably do have some African and Arab in blood in them. However, the Africans and Arabs didn't really settle in the eastern part, so Sicilians there most likely never mixed with them. Eastern Sicilians are probably more of a mix of Greeks, Siculi (ancient Sicilians), Albanians and Slavs.

I don't think it's a bad question to ask. It seems people get offended or question motives a little too much at times.
Oh well.
It makes sense that there would be some mixing between Greeks and Italians, like what has been mentioned before my post...they are geographically close.
My husband is of Italian and Middle Eastern (Jordanian, I believe?) descent. I dated another Italian before meeting my husband that said he had some African descent in him. He was light skinned with green eyes, but hey why not?

Not sure if either my husband or ex-boyfriend have Greek-like features, but I'm sure there are many Italians that do. Hopefully, someone who studies different cultures will be able to chime in on this.
That's right, I said it! I wear scrunchies!!
