What do you do about a raw nose/raw skin under your nose after a cold

I've been wiping my nose and sneezing into tissues like crazy the past few days. Now most of the sneezing has passed, but I'm left with very dry, flaky skin on the end of my nose and on the skin under my nose.

How do you treat this? I tried exfoliating with a coffee, honey, and olive oil mixture. I did the oil cleansing method. I tried slathering on vitamin E oil. Should I keep exfoliating? Or just wait for it to disappear on its own? It's not cute.

I usually slather it with vaseline right before I get in bed, and it's a lot better looking/feeling in the morning.

I don't have vaseline, but I do have neosporin.

Thanks!

Every night before bed, I slathered mine with Nivea lip balm and by morning they were soft and normal looking. Of course, I would undo all of that by the end of the day, but I just kept repeating it until I was better.

Mary Kay Extra Emolient Night Cream works absolutely the fastest of anything I've ever tried, but Johnson's Baby Cream, Aquaphor, Vaseline and other such stuff work well, too.

Mainly, at the first sign of the sniffles, I make sure I get some Kleenex with lotion and prevent it as much as I can. With regular ones, I look like Rudolph in no time. Even so, I'm usually still red and peely for a day or so afterward.

Hmm. Now I need to find someone who sells Mary Kay.

The Neosporin is actually working really well. It doesn't feel all cracked anymore. Still dry though.

There's a new lip balm in a white pot - I think it's by Neutrogena but I've torn off most of the label. What's left says "overnight *something something* therapy" I think. It worked really well for my daughter.

Switching to the tissues with lotion helped a lot, too.
Prevention is best. I only buy tissues with lotion in them. Using cloth hankies is really soothing too (1 blow session and then wash). To cure it after it happens I prefer pharma-grade lanolin (if it's good enough for sore nursing nipples, it's good enough for my nose).
I usually apply calendula cream, or aloe vera gel. I recently bought Aquaphor to keep in the house, so I might try that next time.

I apply a dab of Aquaphor to the sore areas....

I hate tissues with lotion. I am a tissue snob - I've had allergies for 47 years, so I've gone through countless tissues. I only use Scotties - with no lotion or scent. I never understood scented tissues - that always struck me as foolish.

The "anti-bacterial" Kleenex feel like sandpaper, just in case anyone ever thinks of using them. I don't care if they are on sale, they HURT.

I don't like the feel of the lotion ones, but since we switched my daughter doesn't have nearly the dry nose thing she used to have. They feel weird but they work!
I use mineral oil. It's non-irritating, non-comedogenic, and creates a good buffer to prevent further irritation.
I use tissues with lotion. For the dry cracked irritated nose i use Burts Bees , Carmex or Neosporin. The redness with go away after 1 use usually.. the dryness takes a few days and my nose is good as new!

The Neosporin trick worked really well; most of the dry, flaky skin peeled off when I washed my face this morning, and the redness is gone. Thanks for the suggestions!

Feel better soon, Curlyarca. The red and raw feeling beneath the nose is awful.
