What's for dinner?

I finished the chicken/fennel/potato salad I made for lunch, so likely just a vegetarian salad for dinner. Depends what new food we have in the house or if Saria suggests something easy with parsnips. I feel lousy so don't have much energy to cook!

I like them sauteed and drizzled with maple syrup. Otherwise leave them raw and julienne on a mandoline. If you have other root vegetables and more fennel, julienne them as well. Season with sea salt, toss with lemon juice and olive oil, finish with shaved cheese like parm. Voila, white salad (or not if you don't do all white veg). Some toasted hazelnuts would be good in there as well.
Cut into sticks (like fries) and start in a hot pan with oil. Sprinkle with salt.Turn heat down so they don't get too dark too soon (they have tons of sugar). When browned and mostly cooked, throw in some butter to brown. You can just roast them in a hot oven as well. Finish with a small drizzle of a good vinegar if you like.

Julienne or grate and make parsnip cakes/pancakes/hash browns just like you would with potatoes. Some fried eggs, braised greens with a little vinegar, and you're done.

Making some Jamaican chicken patties (felt like chicken ones for some reason). Plus thinking of making some caramelized onion and sweet potato-quark crescents. Mulling it over.
It'll be leftover shrimp orzo and a french roll for me.

Saria, I've never had anything even remotely like Jamaican chicken patties, but that sounds good for some reason.

I love Jamaican beef or chicken patties, but around here all of the little spots offer spinach and cheese patties in what seems like coco bread, not a pastry-like shell. I feel like I should get some - haven't had them since early in my marriage.

You've never had the beef ones, spring?
I wanted to try making them again since I wasn't quite happy with my beef patties. I made a few changes to the dough and will take notes for next time until I am satisfied with it.
The crescents are going to be made with a farmer's cheese dough because I had the impulse at the market to buy both quark and farmer's cheese.
I've never had any type. We don't get out much.

I have a friggin cold and can't really taste anything and don't feel like cooking and mutter grumble whine. Last nite dinner was pop tarts and an entire pan of lipton soup. All the carbs gave me a blasted headache. I have no idea what to have tonite. Maybe steak and salad and some nice strawberries. At least it will look good even if I can't taste it.
Ok, off to gripe on some other thread. : )

Tonight is junk food dinner. We do it every 6 months or so. Everyone gets to pick a junk food treat and we have a little buffet.
