Does It Mean Something For Women To Shave One Side Of The Head ?

Like Tree1Likes

Okay.. I know this is mega dumb.. but I just saw a picture and Scary Spice (Melanie Brown) shaved off one side of her head...

Um.. does this mean something ? I remember Lala Vasquez, Raven Symone, Cassie, and a few other women did the one side of the head shaved thing...

Is it just a trend or does it mean something to shave your head on one side these days for women ?
Gosh.. I loved Cyndi Lauper as a kid. I still think she's cool.

But I guess I was trying to figure out what's going on with women suddenly doing it NOW... I am not "hip" by any stretch of the imagination and I was thinking maybe this is the new hip hair style or something... and someone more hip could explain this thing... LOL!

I've noticed the one side shaved and all the hair shaved off thing, or cut really really low..among women these days more...

I don't know perhaps it's no big deal but I figured I would ask since a lot of people around here seem pretty hip.

She's a nice looking lady though... a lot of women can't pull this look off.. sort of like a lot of men can't pull off the bald thing.
I think it means they are unaware it's not 1987?

Seriously, all the girls in my Jr. High had the haircut where one side was short and the other was long. Not cute.l
poisonivy likes this.
Omg, can you imagine actually having that haircut? That would drive me NUTS. I would be all unbalanced. And one side of my head would be cold. And TOUCHING it and WASHING it...and then trying to grow it out! The horror!!!

And Cassie looked super stupid when she did that. Really, I think you have to have a good amount of fame to pull that off these days. Otherwise you just look like you're trying way too hard.

Shampoo: Herbal Essences-NOYF

Conditioner: Herbal Essences NOYF Conditioner mixed w/ Coppola Keratin Complex Conditioner

+ TJ Nourish and Olive oil combo.
I have to agree.. man the grow out is probably hell. But there is always weave.. most of these celeb women that did it wear weave anyway. So guess when they get tired of it they will throw in a weave.

And I HATED it on Cassie.. good gosh I thought it looked hella stupid on her. I already think she looks like an adolescent boy. She looks like one of those teenage skater dudes with her hair that way..UGH!
People have been doing this since Kelis shaved part of her head a couple years ago. Its definitely a throwback or in honor of a throwback. kelis is the queen of trendsetting. My hair dresser did it and it was actually quite flattering. But it looks odd if the other side is long. Btw, you can't put any weave on it when its totally shaved off. You can wear a lace front or regular wig, but I can't see even gluing tracks on the bald part. It would just look...well... about as bad as it looks to have long hair on one side and totally buzzed hair on the other

I have seen almost bald women get weaves but they would have sporadic sections of hair on their head. They didn't have nothing on a whole side lol.

I think all it really means is that they want people to talk about them...as in "Did you see what Mel B. did to her hair? That was really (fill in the blank)."

Some celebrities use this "OMG" factor as a means to stay in the blogs and on people's minds.

I liked the cut, I hated having to wear a dress with that hair cut.

It didn't match!

Mix of 3s, thick, coarse, medium porosity

Current hair styling technique: rake with a scrunch at the end. (works with my coarse hair)

I am wondering the same thing. It's not a cute style to me at all, so I can't imagine why so many celebs are doing it. Maybe it's some celeb secret code of trust kinda thing. Once you enter the circle you must shave one side of your head...LOL...IDK!
its just a style thing.

i was *this* close to jumping on the shaved side bandwagon and im so glad i fought the urge. i think the style is so cut, but growing out would be pain.

Yes, I think she is a beautiful woman. And People voted her one of its Most Beautiful People back in the TLC heyday.

I don't know what lay behind Cassie's decision.

But a lot of celebrities wear weaves and seriously F'd up hair...so it's really no biggie idf they do this. It will be covered up soon enough.

That's the thing about the buzzing styles..the grow out phase... it would drive me batty.
