Exactly!
This is nice. I'm glad they have this now. I wonder if these new additions will help put an end to the ever popular, yet somewhat frustrating questions of "am I 2c or 3a??"

Live Curly, Live Free: Hair Porosity
You can check porosity on dry hair by taking a strand of several hairs from four different areas of the head (front hairline, temple, crown and nape). Slide the thumb and index finger of your other hand down each hair strand from end to scalp. If it is smooth, you have normal porosity. If your fingers move very fast up the hair strand and it feels exceptionally slick, dense and hard, you have low porosity. If your fingers "catch" going up the strand, feel like they are ruffling up the hair strand, or if the hair strand breaks, your hair is overly porous.

Ahh, I return and then this was here. :] I can't wait until people start using this section.
So I've been getting splits lately. Need to do a little "dusting".
Quick question:
Any of you that have a HIGH PROTEIN DIET (eaten, not for hair) have troubles with split ends? I was thinking of eating more protein to see if that low protein was the cause??

I just found out I am normal porosity. Tiffany suggested I use protein conditioners every third time. But I'm not really sure how to know which products have protein and which don't. Obviously, if it says protein on the bottle or in the ingredients I know it does, but are there some products that could have protein without it saying on the bottle?

Interesting - I was told to use protein now and then, but it wasn't so specific. I wish it was!
Anyway, this is what I know about proteins (and it might not be all-encompassing):
if it says "hydrolyzed" it's probably a protein
if it says "amino acid" it's probably a protein
if it says "keratin" it's probably a protein.
HTH! Hopefully someone else will be able to tell you more.

Tried CG for a summer, but it wasn't for me. I don't load up on sulfates and silicones, but I have no shame in using them when I want/need to! Currently loving LOOB.

Thanks. I found that information in my notes after I posted this.
I have been using protein almost every time I wet my hair now (every 2-3 days) along with moisture and my hair has only improved. I did an experiment to see how long I could go without protein and after about a week my hair got way too fluffy and yuck. So I think plenty of protein is for me!

I would say I have a moderate(adequate) protein diet but no grains(gluten sensitivity) and no sugar. My hair loves this diet and so do my nails. When I stopped eating this way and went back to a "convenience" diet, ie quick easy pick up meals from the grocery or stuff with wheat or grains, my hair actually started falling out more quickly. I have thinning hair from PCOS anyway so keeping my insulin(and androgen hormones) down with the no grains/sugar helps my general health and as a great side-effect my hair benefits too. When you're not eating the grains/sugar, you tend to eat a ton of vegetables which you get the benefit of too.
I did the same experiment a year ago. It's still in progress as I haven't hit a protein wall yet. My hair just keeps getting better and better. I only use protein products on my hair, no moisture and my hair is the best its ever been in my entire life. I will only be using protein from now on.

Wow this is so great. I will figure out what my porosity is as soon as my hair is dry. I did figure out that it is coarse though.
