i did not use a clip like that, hurt my head! LOL. i just regular head clips with satin wrapped around the band. i got them mostly online, jcrew, and some dept store accessory sites, i would go to the brands they offered website. nothing expensive. i also had stretchy material ones from rite aid, a bunch of those. they were easier on my head. i can wear a head clip band one day or two, but by the 3rd and 4th day they really annoy/hurt my head, so i'll use the stretchy ones in between. the stretchy ones gave my hair a different look, more like it was somewhat up. i liked both and occasionally on a bad hair day (like a 2nd day) or a very hot day, i'll pull my hair back with them.
as far as yellowing, i stand by ardell red/gold corrector in any conditioner you chose. the blue conditioners i bought irritated my head, made it itchy, made my hair dry and if i wasn't careful, tinted it blue!!
ardell corrector keeps the yellow out, never tints my hair blue, and because i pick the conditioner, makes my hair soft. i dump a bunch of it in an almost full bottle of conditioner so it's always available depending on my whims.

The headband crwitt (heh, autocorrect changed your name to "critter") is very similar to the one I was wearing in that post on page 11, except mine was sort of wrapped in narrow satin ribbon. I'm not sure how else to describe it. It didn't have those little short teeth on the scalp side that so many headbands seem to have, so it was fairly comfortable. I can't remember where I got it - probably either Sally's, Target, the drugstore, or the grocery store.
You guys, my hair has grown so much since those last photos - the gray is about a half inch from the ends! I really need to take another photo so you can see.

Here's to all the silver foxes
I stopped coloring my hair several years ago, and although I'm 65, the gray is filtering in and I still have more brown than gray. It's so freeing to let things go totally natural....speaking of which, this is the first time in my life I've let my natural curl do its thing. Spent the summer getting used to my new wavy/curly look. It's so wonderful not to bother with drying/styling tools.
This site is one of the reasons I decided to go curly. Now I'm reading to learn more and trying various products.
Since going naturally curly, I've noticed that people smile at me more. Students in my community college classes....strangers in stores....and isn't that just sweet?! Maybe the curls make me look like more of a fun type person.

Okay, here are a couple of fairly recent photos:
I like how my hair looks now that it's grown out. My chief complaint is that there isn't MORE GRAY! I really thought I had a lot more, based on the roots I used to always cover up, but that is not the case. I guess I need to be patient - it will be here soon enough! In the meantime, I get a ton of compliments on it, and when I'm all dressed up and with makeup on for work, I think it really works on me. Whatcha think?

Thanks, 2poodles! I found one more pic that's much better - taken with our iPad instead of my crummy iPhone, lol! It's a little overexposed, but you can better see how much gray there is. I wish it were more clumped and streaky than sprinkled evenly throughout, but oh well:

crwritt and rustina, both of you are my hair idols with these pics! I want your length and thickness. Alas, I will have to settle just for the length at some point in the future because thickness I am no longer blessed with.
crwritt, you almost look like you have 2 different heads of hair from front to back. That is so awesome-looking!
I am growing out my shorter top layers. I loved them for about a year including the trims to keep them that way, but now I want to have more of a long bob look and I really need to get those shorter layers down to chin or at least cheek length. Patience needed; not a virtue of mine.

I too am jealous of all the thick hair. Thanks to Mr Thyroid mine isn't nearly as thick as it used to be. But thankfully curly hair makes it much less noticeable.

Crwitt - wow, your hair has really grown! Your color dispersion is what a lady at my work has and what I wish I had, with all that white in the front. Patience is not my virtue either, but I know someday it will get there!

crwitt, love your hair! that is exactly how mine came in, more and more in the front, then eventually some in the back.
now i am about 85% white/gray, and the bottom back of my hair which is usually covered is totally black.
my sister's came in fairly evenly, nice salt and pepper. but i think for most people the front first, then the back.

I just saw that same headband at Target, the satin wrapped one, if anyone is still looking for one.

You all look great - it's amazing how variable the graying process is. Not just among women, but also on the same head of hair! My grays are scattered about, perhaps a bit more in the front, but fairly evenly. It's just harder to see because my natural hair color is a dark blonde/light brown shade. The grays look like highlights, at least they do from a distance!

Gray hair diary
For some reason, i can't see your pics. I would love to see your progress!
Never mind- I just wasn't patient enough to wait for the download. Looks terrific! You gals are so much braver than I am. I am still coloring the grays because otherwise I would be dirty blondish gray. Yuck.
Thanks for the inspiration!

I bought one at Walmart, however, I only wore it twice cuz I went to put it on and it snapped!!! I barely opened it (I have a small head). I was not very happy. I think it was scunci brand with the black ribbon. Maybe I can find it in a different brand... I will check to see if Target has the same one...

wow! all of you have some gorgeous unique heads of hair! here is my updated photo album
september 2012 hair album | banjolady | Fotki.com, photo and video sharing made easy.
no color since june 2010 last cut 10/11 w ana at devachan. iwill be 63 in november so there are some other over 60s in the group as well as those who are coming up on that BIG birthday...
but just an FYI--being over 60 is really fun as long as you stay healthy and dont let the superficial signs of aging get to you!!
