You and your hair look beautiful as always banjo. I wish mine was still as thick as it used to be. But Mr Thyroid has messed with that. Thankfully curly hair still looks thick even when it isn't.
If I had a pic of my aunt handy, you would be shocked at how much you look like her. She is from the mountains of WV. A very musical family. I have always admired her high cheekbones.

thanks so much jeep!! my hair isnt thick either, just fluffs up like cotton candy.is your aunt a musician? ask her if she knows the appalachian stringband convention in clifftop WV. meet me there next summer!!

My aunt isn't a musician but her brothers were all very talented. banjos, fiddles, etc. My aunt is around 80 now and I don't think she has been home in years. They were 'real' mountain people. Very fun to be around.

a little sidetrack for Banjo - I wish I could find some decent pics of my aunt because you just remind me so much of her. Here's an old pic from when she first came to town and somehow ended up with my uncle. and a newer pic (she never looks at the camera!). I wish she would let her hair go grey but she is a curly!

I use this every once and awhile to prevent yellowing. It works great!

hello everyone. i havent been around in quite some time, but i'm still growing out my silver and have been loving it up till recently.
Actually it's become very difficult over the last 6 months when all of a sudden my hair started coming out like crazy. I have been being treated for adrenal fatigue since that time as well and my thyroid is in the so called "normal" range- although i dont think my general dr. is reading the test with a more modern and up to date view... so, everything i'm reading and experiencing tells me that sure- my thryoid as well as adrenals are whacked.
Anyway, I've mourned the loss of my thick curls, and summoned up my strength when i do wash it to go on with it the way it is because i dont have a choice, do i?
Then, i've gotten proactive about it and am taking supplements: biotin & evening primrose oil as well as making sure i take my b's and magnesium. And i've realized i need more protein since my hair is so fine...

So, i guess i'm just coming here to commisserate and/or try to get anyones thoughts if you've been through this. i've tried not to think too far in the future as to what to do with my hair beyond this but i have considered if it get's any thinner i may have to cut it shorter. I do think the thinning has slowed considerably but i still cant be sure.

so. thanks in advance for anything you may offer.

if you feel your dr is not up-to-date with the latest thinking about thyroid levels, first i'd have a conversation with him on what his thoughts are on this thinking and what your symptoms are, and if no results, i'd get a second opinion. it's your health. don't be afraid, be proactive.

Biotin and a bunch of other supplements, eating a clean diet most of the time, getting a good amount of exercise, lots of water, and good sleep have all come together to bring back some of the hair I've lost due to thyroid and age. It has also helped my fingernails get healthier and start growing again, and has helped with my thinning eyelashes too.

Just checked out your newest pics. I hadn't seen the August 2012's yet, they are Awesome! I can't wait til my natural hair is that long and the rest of the dye is cut off!!!

I am going to go ahead and order the Ardell Red Gold Corrector finally! Mix it with a conditioner, maybe a cheaper one. How often are you then using the homemade purple conditioner?

I am dye free now ONE YEAR! Still some color on ends. Pictures were taken on my one year anniversary, 1/4/13. Should've taken some pics of the back. Hope these upload...

order the larger size, it gives you lots of mileage!! and it's only like $5.99 i think. it lasts me for months.

i use it ABOUT once a week, more or less, depending on my hair. i mostly do it on a low poo day, so my hair is free from product. then i work it through my hair, put a plastic processing cap on, and keep it on while i shower, then rinse, and add my leave in. i think it's great as it lets me use whatever conditioner i want, so i feel like my hair is getting a good conditioning meanwhile.

I use my purple conditioner 3 or 4 times a month. I leave it in while I give my hair a good detangling and massage my scalf really well, then condition wash and style as usual.

I ordered the larger (not packet) Ardell. I think .25 oz. What ratio are you using? I'm thinking of buying like a 12 oz curly girl friendly conditioner and mixing with the full bottle of condish. How much of the Ardell would I use and will it go bad? I'm thinking it would last me like a year.

If I found the correct up to date ingredients, they are:

Water (Aqua), Propylene Glycol, Isopropyl Alcohol, Red 33 (CI 17200), Blue 1 (CI 42090).

The alcohol sounds really drying! Any recommendations on a conditioner? High or low end, what are you using for your mix?

i tried several different conditioners. the one i now use is cj argan & olive oil, i feel it is good for my hair, so i'm doing two things at once. but others also worked, it's whatever you want. and, i may change it going forward.

i started with a slightly used bottle, like 10 ounces in a 12 oz bottle so i'd have room to add the ardell and shake it up. i started with 15 drops per ounce (as that is the recommended when it is used in conjunction with color) and now use about 18 drops per oz. shake it up, good to go whenever. you can use more or less ardell, see how it works for your hair. your hair will never be blue with this, just whitens it, so it is 'error-free!'

you all look fabulous! so i just got my new passport pictures. they wouldnt let me smile and show teeth! so they have a field to enter your hair color on renewal of passport. i guess i will put gray tho it looks different in every light....no these pics are NOT the passport pics!!
i am now dye free since june 2010....i only have about 3 inches of color left...

Banjo, your hair looks so great - I love your natural color so much! My hair has grown out from my avatar pic - it's shoulder length in back, collarbone length in front, and your length is what I eventually want to get to. Keep on rockin' that hair!
