I am running at lightning speed away from it. Health issues caused premature graying about eight years ago. Although it is a pretty white color it doesn't match my face....because without it everyone thinks I am in my 20s when I am actually 40. :-)

TriciaRose - I so get what you mean about envying those who have pretty grey, I also envy those who have even grey - mine is still (after many years) only grey on the top of my head and it drives me mad as I know it'll look awful if I grow it out.

I come from a family that grays early. I started getting some grays in my mid-30s, which was actually late compared to other family members.

For now I'm running from gray, but I also see a fork in the distance when I might embrace it. Right now, I'm 45 and usually mistaken for being in my thirties, so I feel like it's too early to let the grays take over. I get them colored over with a shade that's just a bit lighter than my natural light brown. (Actually, color swatches would label my hair dark blond, but to me it looks light brown.)

I'm guessing I'm 30% gray now, as far as I can tell from when the roots come in. Seeing so many women on this thread with pretty gray hair gives me good role models for future gray hair. I'm just not ready for that yet.

On a somewhat related topic...does anyone else get an occasional WHITE eyebrow hair cropping up? That started when I was around 42. In each of my brown eyebrows, I have about 3 or 4 snow white hairs, it's so weird! I'm afraid to put dye near my eyes, but thank God I discovered eyebrow gel. (I get the Anastasia brand--I'm not affiliated with the company, I just like their eyebrow gel for this purpose.)

I do think I'll go gray in my sixties and beyond. I have blue eyes, and sometimes I think gray or silver hair can make blue eyes "pop" more.

P.S. Speaking of aging, I need reading glasses now (in addition to my regular glasses) and I left a question about rimless frames (aging or not?) on the general board if anyone wants to chime in. Wasn't sure where to post it.

Joslyn, I have 4 or 5 white eyebrow hairs. I don't do anything with them. As most people around her can tell, I don't really care what age people think I am so a few white eyebrow hairs don't bother me. Besides, unless someone is looking at me thru a magnifying glass I don't think they'll even notice them.
I have white hairs 'other' places too. My carpet matches my drapes. : )

As for glasses, I'm no help. I like rimmed glasses and have never tried rimless.

I was a little twizzer happy and all of the regrowth has been white hairs. I've just left them alone and some dark brown/black hairs have mixed in with them.

Funny story about white eyebrow hairs - my girlfriend and I had gone out shopping and she went to reach for my face and I asked her what she was doing, she said "you didn't rub all your moisturizer in" I just laughed.

I with jeepcurlygurl though, without the microscope no one will know.

I got my first grey hair when I was 9! I had sparse greys in my teens and 20s and didn't bother coloring. I just plucked the ones that stood up above all the rest. I started coloring about 10 years ago when I was about 10-15% grey.

Now that I'm more than 50% on top and about 25% underneath, I've tried embracing on and off for the past year, but I'm over that now. With my hair colored, I look refreshed and rested and 10 years younger than I am. With the grey at my temples and around my face, I look tired and haggard and at least 10 years older than I am. It's not about whether I look older or younger for me, but I'm tired of people asking if I feel okay or if I'm tired. I have started using one shade lighter than my natural hair color, so the greys are more like highlights instead dark brown.

I agree with TriciaRose that not all shades of grey compliment all skin tones. I've tried all shades/tones of blonde wigs and never found one that flattered my skin tone. Similarly, the grey at my temples and around my face is NOT a flattering shade. I could probably try to correct this with makeup, but I have NEVER worn makeup, and I don't plan to start at my age. Now, if my greys were silver like my husband's (or Bararosa's below), I think grey would look better on me and I would embrace going grey.


As for glasses, I like the way I look in my clear rimmed and wire rimmed readers better than how I look in my dark rimmed ones.

I LOVE my gray hair. For much the same reason that I like my curly hair :-) Its just me. I am 31 and have a white patch above my left ear and stragglers all over my head :-) here are some other reasons I embrace it...a) my grandma had white hair as long as I remember (she died when I was a tween) and I always thought she was awesome and looking back she was beautiful even well into her wrinkles :-) and b) I used to work with a woman that was totally gray under her color and sometimes you just can't keep up with the roots and she would have a skunk stripe of gray (my mom has this now bc she colors religiously). I want my hair to change gradually, not sneak up on me like a skunk :-)

To each their own, but that's mine :-)

I'm a guy so I probably think a little different. "I don't care if its grey, I just care if it's there." About seven years ago I finally came around to wearing my hair longer and letting the curls grow. However, I haven't grown facial hair in 16 years (when I was 24) and especially won't now because of the increasing amount of grey. However, I have no problem being grey and curly. That said, I have very few on my head.

I just turned 40 last month and decided to dye my grays. They weren't unruly really. They are straight and very noticeable next to my dark brown super curly hair. Now that I've dyed them they blend in much better with the curls. I'm happy with the color now.

I was semi-running - had virgin hair for thirty years, (I am 51 now) and coloured it with a semi-permanent colour last month. Really wish I hadn't - it has made my hair go crazy, turned it into a frizz-mop! ;p won't ever colour it again, I think.

And I wasn't doing too badly for 51 - just a small handful of silvery grey running through bangs/canopy...can't imagine why I thought I needed to colour it!

I am praying I look like Jeepy at 55 I am in awe of her (and a few others here!) hair! Y'all are aging so gracefully and beautifully and therefore, don't look old in the least!

One last thought on colouring the hair after 50 - it looks weird to me, cause then the hair doesn't match the face ;p Since I coloured mine, I feel like I am wearing someone else's hair, or a wig...young hair, older face.
