Running, but thinking about embracing. Got my first grays in my early 20s, highlighted to blend them, then started complete coloring as more grays came in, and never stopped. I'm 45 now and probably 80% gray. My natural color is a medium reddish brown and the grays make it look very mousey and blah. I just switched to a beautiful red color that I love, but wow, that landing strip at my scalp is awful when it starts growing out!
I have to love my grays (even though I cover them) because they're what give me my waves...my hair was stick straight when I was in my teens!

Running...
I used to embrace my gray but once I got the "Bride of frankenstein" look it had to go! I'll be 44 in august but I look like I'm in my early 30's so it seemed incongruous. I have a lot of gray throughout my hair and I don't grow gray, whole strands turn gray. I've never had gray roots or hair that is half gray, half my natural color, just sudden long gray strands.

Embracing! At least for now, because it's coming in silver against my medium ashe blonde and it looks like highlights! Free highlights! Woo hoo!

Running very fast and very hard. Kicking and screaming all the way. My grays just seem to drain all the life and vibrancy out of my skin tone - can't deal with it.

I just turned 40 and I've been fraying for about 10 years slowly. Kinda sick of coloring, so I switched to a Demi to help mask the two tone line, and I'm growing it out! So, half embracing I guess, lol.

Embracing it all the way to the end!
I spent most of my life not embracing my curly hair - now I do love it! I pledge to love myself from now on - even gray hairs that might let people know that I am old enough to be a grandma! Because I am!!! lol I just want to healthy & happy for the rest of my days.

Embracing at 48...I am in month 20 of growing my gray out, since I refuse to cut my hair short! I couldn't seem to load an avatar w/out it being blurry, but my profile pic shows my silver curls really well. I was worried the silver wouldn't look good with my warm skin tone, but it really seems to "brighten" my face up, and I get compliments daily! I love seeing all you fellow silver curlies!

Running as fast as I can!! I'm 47 but I've only got about 20% gray so it just doesn't look right to grow out yet. I'm just not ready for that yet eithrr.

It is so pretty! I love it. My gray is coming in in the front and sides, very sparsely. I want it to fill in some more especially in the front. It would look better.

Graybird, if my hair looked like yours, I'd be embracing too! It's lovely!

Thanks, everyone! I was just tired of the upkeep and having to cover my roots every week and a half...and was having bad reactions to the dye...burning, itching scalp. I also started embracing my natural curl around the same time, as I flat ironed it every day to the point where nobody even knew I had curly hair. I am learning to love my curls and silver at the same time!

Are you embracing or running away from your grey hair?
@graybird - your hair looks great! What you said about warm skin tone encourages me for when I'm ready(not yet). Like you, I refuse to have my hair cut any shorter too, at such time when I'm really ready to let my now-considerable grey grow in. And here I was concerned that having an inverted bob was too long for transitioning to grey - now I see that it's not LOL! 20 months - now that's patience! I think for me it would take a little over a year to maybe a year and a half for the longest pieces on my hair, during which I would have fading, brassy red - ugh, against the grey and black. I have less grey and patchier than you do however, so that makes a difference. Usually, for warmer skin tones, it's best to wait until one is practically all silver, like you. Your curls look great by the way - good move to embrace those too.

I'm toying with embracing the gray. It's not an easy decision for me. I'm thinking of doing demi-permanent color until my old permanent color grows out but am afraid that even the demis may be permanent on my porous hair.
Any colorists want to chime in?

i'm not a colorist, but i will share my daughter's experience.
like me, and my father before me, she is graying early, started at 17. so for her wedding 4 years ago her friend who is a colorist did a 'TEMPORARY' color to cover the gray.
ah, she finally cut it all out last year. (it had oxidized and was orangey.)
my hair was darkest brown/black, and i bit the bullet and went cold turkey to transition. happy i did.
