Finding the right product for young curlies is the same process us older curlies use: trial and error.

Check out the 4 hair forums and look for ladies who have hair similar to your daughters and look at what products they use.

Also why are you looking so hard for definers? She is a little girl so braids, twist, barrettes, etc are perfectly acceptable. Back when my teen was at your daughters age I would weekly style her hair in twists or pixies then she would do her own style such as pony tails etc, with them.

Lastly check out this blog for inspiration. http://beadsbraidsbeyond.blogspot.com/

I'm not a 4 im 3b but this techinque should work for most textured types I got this from tightlycurly.com and after you shampoo with a gentle shampoo then condition your hair and LEAVE IT IN, dont towel dry Oh, make sure you comb or brush only while your hair is wet with conditioner and dont touch while its drying. When your hair is dry you can style it or just wair it down. MAKE SURE YOU DONT RINSE THE CONDITIONER OUT

I agree - check the tightlycurly.com website. She has lists of her fav conditioners and stuff and what exact products she likes for specific parts of her styling/washing/drying routine. Her method doesn't work for us (at this point) but it's definitely worth checking into!!

GL!

You're welcome

Right now, I am mostly just using Unrefined Shea Butter - I feel like it's a natural choice that works for us! I detangle her hair after wetting it, using my fingers, then a wide tooth comb. Then I apply shea butter and let it be! I breathe on the butter to get it kind of melted and then it goes on thinner.

I've also recently tried Original Sprout's shampoo, leave in condish, and detangler. The detangler was too heavy for my daughter, but we loved the shampoo and leave in. Plus the ingredients are trustworthy and that's really important to me!!

You could check my blog I'm still learning about all this curl stuff too! But what I do know I try to share.

Have you tried the tightlycurly method? How is it working?

One other "tip" I just thought of, but it's pretty obvious - don't use shampoo too often, curls like conditioner way way more than shampoo.

Let me know if you have any more questions!!

I'd like to jump in here and mention that if your daughter's hair is 4c or Z pattern, a curl definer won't make curls that aren't there. Z pattern hair, which turns at sharp angles rather than coiling, forms a lovely fluffy cloud of hair rather than a head of curls. It's good to keep in mind that many people have more than one type of curl pattern.

The key to all loose styles looking great, regardless of the curl pattern, is enough moisture. There are a lot of fabulous conditioners around, my personal favorite for dry hair is Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose. Choosing an excellent conditioner and then adding moisture daily keeps the hair in great condition. Adding a small amount of coconut oil a few times a week improves hair elasticity and makes a big difference in overall hair health.

If she has curls that can be defined, some wonderful products are Darcy's Botanicals Natural Coils Curling Jelly and Blended Cutie Jelly Cream, Down and Out or Happy Nappy Styles.

You can find a video I made on daily care for loose hair here: http://www.youtube.com/happygirlhair. You can find product reviews and recommendations on my site Happy Girl Hair. I have one daughter with 4b/4c hair and one with 3b/3c hair.

How about trying twists and twist outs too? They can be easier to care for and longer lasting. And they create definition.
