Tween styling

I have a tween, 10 y/o African-American beauty. She is in that stage where ponytails are getting too young but wearing it open is too grown (and she isn't ready to wear an Afro) any advice?
Braids, 2 or 3 strand twists. The possibilities are still endless for different styles.

If you do her whole head in box braids then she can wear it up, down, buns, twists.

Her hair will be protected, and easy to style for a week or 2 at a time.

My eight-year-old is saying braids and twists are too "babyish." She is adopted and I've always been very positive about her hair. Actually, I love it! It is amazing and so much fun. She wants to wear her hair loose. I'm thinking of getting her a cute shorter cut so she can have her hair down but still keep it tidy. She's also been experimenting with scarves (she raids my closet) and can actually do some really cute things on her own. We've been doing CG for a couple of years, and it is getting pretty long, so it seems a shame, but now we know we can grow it long again when we want to.
babyish? LOL.

Have you showed her pictures of of famous women and models with braids and micro twists, or how about locs? Bandu knots?

If she doesn't like it as an everyday style how about wearing braid outs and twist outs? That way she can have her hair down and it's will be easy to wear no matter if you decide to cut it shorter or not.

I'd let her wear it however she wants since she seems to take such an active role in her own natural haircare, provided she doesn't slack on taking good care of it.

Surf the web with her and look for styles she'd like. Sounds like you guys are having fun with it and that's all that really matters!

Do blow outs once a week. I loved that as a child.

Most of us curlies here cowash, which is just cleansing the scalp with a silicone free conditioner, or we use a sulfate-free shampoo. Generally, the CG method works, but it's not for everyone.

Check out princesshairstyles.com. My best friend has a daughter she adopted from Ethiopia with a full head of 3c curls. She is almost 8 now and my friend uses some of the styles on her. I am also using them on my girls (who will be 6 & 8 soon). We pick out the style they want to do and they love it!
