at odd with my husband :(

Your son is adorable! That said, I personally prefer the first picture, though I can see why you like the definition in the second. To me, it just seems like his hair is too weighed down. How fine is your son's hair? Usually young children have baby hair or rather fine hair, so it might just be that the conditioner is weighing down his light-weight strands (when it gets thicker, maybe co-pooing will be more beneficial)! I would go with a sulfate-free shampoo like shea moisture once or twice a week (bonus, your husband can't complain) and continue using the devacurl one condition at the ends only.

Please post results/updates if you end up changing anything after all :-)

Yeah, this will sound harsh but plenty of folks seem to disagree w/me so who knows what the truth is: Honestly his hair looks greasy, limp and unwashed to me in that second pic ... very product-ridden and in need of a wash. Not cute.

But in the first pic, his hair, IMO, looks healthy and natural

Yeah I actually agree, low poo sounds better for your son, SheaMoisture Poo's are great and still follow cg, silicone free, sulfate free. I like #1 volume but #2 definition

Have you tried not leaving the One Condition in his hair? You could use it as a conditioner, but not a leave in. Sometimes, that can lead to it weighing the hair down. I agree with everyone else, you could try a low-poo so that it can give equity between you, your husband, and your son's hair.

P.S- Your son and his curls are adorable!

I prefer the big fluffy hair in pic 1 as well!

Cowashing may be good for adults who are likely to only ever have sweat or sebum on their scalp (which you can remove with cowashing) but kids get into all kinds of interesting messes which may need surfactants that are stronger than the cationic ones in the cowashing-appropriate light conditioners. This is my theory. Someone already mentioned that the One Condition is not meant to be a cowashing conditioner.

CG permits gentle sulfate-free shampoos. Drugstore ones include YestoCucumbers, DermOrganic, Giovanni. You can always dilute these a little bit to make them easier to spread, and effectively use less of them. The SheaMoisture ones are also very good and CG, but the shea in them might weigh his hair down.

You can always look into something like
