Help!!

I have a 10 yr old daughter who is biracial and her hair seems to be changing and I am at a loss of what to use in her hair. I believe she has 3c hair and in the past Curly Q worked very well but not anymore. I just tried DevaCurl Light Defining Gel but it seemed to make it very dry. I would love to get some suggestions.

Thanks,
Roxanne

I recommend a great leave-in and compatible sealant with hold. For example, wash, condition (detangle), apply leave-in, then smooth in curling custard. I don't comb hair after detangling. I finger-style. It has worked wonders for me. Hopefully it will work for your daughter.

What are her hair properties - porosity, elasticity, coarseness? Leave in conditioner is critical, and can contain an oil which negates the need for sealing.

I'd suggest getting a copy of Curly Girl: The Handbook for the two of you to read, and to watch the video clips together. Even if she's not ready to take over her own haircare, she's probably got some strong opinions about what she likes, what works, and what doesn't (or outright hurts). Doing this together, at this point in her life, will probably make her teen years easier for both of you.
