Default I've read and read, but I don't know where to start!

Hi all! I have read SO much, but I am confused on where to start for my little girl.

Obligatory back-story .... My little girl was very curly as a baby, and had perfect little red spiral curls as a toddler. Over time, her hair seemed to lose its curl, only coming out when it was wet. It became poofy, frizzy, and unidetifiable. I do not have curly hair. I knew nothing about it. I am now, after some serious reading, very certain that her change from baby shampoo, some detangler with only finger-combing, to "big girl" shampoo/conditioner with regular brushing, is where I unwittingly went wrong. I didnt realize it but i dont think it "changed"....I think *I* changed it. She is now 9. Her hair is dry I suppose, since she could go a week without washing it and there would be no tell-take oily scalp. Her hair is pretty long (past her shoulder blades when dry, down to her lower back when wet) She has ringlet curls on the underside of her hair (the part a brush doesn't reach since when she brushes because she has a lot of hair.) Her hair used to be very fine, but now it seems very thick, but fine at the same time. Does that make any sense? Lol

Anyhow, I don't know where to start. I can't identify her curl type, since the only visible curl is on the underside. I don't know if that counts. I am interested in the "no-poo" method, and got her some CG approved V05 last night. But now what? I know HOW to do the no-poo part, but then I read a bunch of stuff about leave-ins and other things, but I don't know what to use on her hair.

I know I just rambled like crazy, but I need a little help

Lose the hairbrush, try conditioner only washing, you can use the same product as a leave in conditioner initially and change later if you are not happy.

If you want a styling product consider flaxseed gel: you can get in the kitchen with your daughter, it's cheap, no artificial chemicals unless you use a preservative.

There are quite a few Curly Girl for kids videos on YouTube. Curl pattern is not that important, hair properties more so (how fine, porous, elastic it is).
Momofcurly likes this.
2a-2c, medium texture, porous/ colour treated. Three years CG, growing out mechanical and chemical damage = breakage and very high porosity. Past armpit length heading for waist.

CO-wash: Inecto coconut
Treatments: Komaza Matani, coconut oil, Hairveda Sitrinillah
Leave in: Fructis Sleek & Shine (old), Gliss ultimate volume, Inecto argan
Styler: Umberto Giannini jelly, Boots Essentials gel
Experimenting with: going back to basics

Awesome- good to know I can just dive right in and figure it out as I go I didn't know about flax seed gel- I do now, after plenty of reading up. Very cool! I will be trying that ASAP, as well as figuring out her porousity. Thanks for the info!
