your favorite spray detangler

im in search of a new spray detangler for the munchkin. we currently use loreal kids and even though it works really well it has a cone in it. that isnt so bad because her shampoo is a low poo, but id really like to make the switch to something CG. i tried kiss my face's spray detangler and it was horrible--didnt detangle and left her hair feeling dry, crunchy and hard.

i was thinking about trying the one from circle of friends (anyone tried it?) but id like to hear what works well for your kids!
I'd love to hear from other parents of curlies about a spray on detangler, too!!!!11!!! I have been searching for about 7 years for one without cones, bad chemis, horrible fragrances and that actual works. I mix up Trader Joe's Nourish Spa with infused water, aloe vera gel, and oils, but have to buy many different things and it gunks up those cheapie spray bottles, lol. While I don't have any good recommendations, so far I know that the ones below are TOTAL CRAP:

[]Kiss My Face Obsessively Natural Kids Detangler--created more tangles, gummed up hair, left hair ashen

[]California Baby Detangler--created more tangles, gummed up hair, left hair ashen, smelled bad

And one I tried on my own hair...and immediately threw at the trash can, as I couldn't subject anyone else to such horrible stuff:

[]Just For Me 2n1 Detangler & Conditioner--bad ingredients (just realized it's from a kiddie relaxer company for pete's sake, lol), smelled like the fakest lemony stuff, triggered my allergies and a migrane, gummed up hair so bad that my hair strands seemed to fuse together into unstoppable world destroying tangles, awful coating of hair, I'm suspicious that this stuff could actually alter your hair texture, lol...

Hi Subbrock

I've been using the California Baby detangler for a few days now and I actually like it!
I don't use it on her wet hair as I detangle with conditioner but I do like it for when I'm styling her hair on a morning for school, I spray a bit on then use my wide tooth comb to tie it in pigtails, braids ect it detangles quite well and doesnt make her hair sticky or producty, I will try it in her wet hair tomorrow and let you know

Oh and the Calming Conditioner is good but not quite moisturising enough for her thirsty hair (her hair loves KBB milk and Biolage) so I'm going to use it as a leave in or possibly on my older daughters hair

mumofcurlygirl,to use up the California Baby Detangler, I used little bit as a final quick spray before going out since it reports to have tiny bit of natural sunscreens. But, I didn't manipulate my kids' hair one bit after spraying it on. With how you used it--as in still able to manipulate your daughter's hair afterwards--did your daughter have any other products in her hair? Just totally dry hair? Did you work the detangler in with hands/wide tooth comb or let it sit a while before styling?

Really wished it or Kiss My Face worked for us because they have great ingredients. Think Kiss My Face didn't work because of the Witch Hazel = instant poofy volume. Can't figure out why California Baby didn't work for us...

I used it on dry hair, the only products I use on her hair is leave in (hae been experimenting with KCCC but not at this time) I was able to comb through when I sprayed it on but I didnt really try to manipulate it afterwards as I just leave it in pigtails/braids all day, I think it also controlled her frizzy flyaways quite well as normally within about an hour she has these around the front of her head sides ect (you'll know what I mean!) and with this detangler I noticed that she had less, hope this helps!

Oh I used to love Original little Sprout detangler but can't use it now due to cones before CG I used it on her all the time, it melted her tangles, I'm quite tempted to go back to it some days!

i forgot to mention that i would only be using the detangler on her dry hair. i use them like you do momofcurlygirl, just as a refresher.

im glad to see someone else hated the detangler by kiss my face! apparently other people hated it as well because when i bought it it was on clearance and i havent seen another bottle since.
I loved the Little Sprout line and used their spray detangler on my daughter's hair. I'm a little sad now because since starting CG I've been looking through the ingredients in my kids' hair products and noticed it has silicone in it:

Ingredients: Floral Waters Infused with Organic Rosemary (Rosmarinus Officinalis), Organic Sage (Salvia Officinalis), Organic Basil (Ocimum Basilcum), Organic Chamomile, Organic Recutita (Matricana), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Vitamin E, Calendula Flowers, Linseed Extract, Gentle Moisturizer (Cyclo/Amo/Dimethicone), Cetearyl Alcohol from Coconut Oil, Cetrimonium Chloride Salts, Mild Conditioner Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Anti-Buildup (Trideceth-12), Non-Drying Emulsifier SD Alcohol 40-B, Vitamin B-5 (Panthenol ), Trideceth-9, Peg-5 (Moisturizer), Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose Cellulose/Plants, Non Paraben Preservatives (Methylisothiazolinone/chloro/Sodium Benzoate), Phthalate Free Fragrance

So now I want to find something else too! I'll look into the California Baby line now. Thanks!

Fuzzy Duck is good. I only use it on dry hair, and it always works. It's from Mop Top's kids line.
I must try California Baby Detangler on dry hair to see if that makes all the difference. But, I'm not going to give the other two detanglers I tried second chances, lol.

I also need a good detangler for my daughter's hair...not cg but I have been using johnson and johnson on her dry hair in the mornings, not good...

And she has a really tender head...poor kid...

Any suggestions? I tried that Loreal stuff too, didn't work either.

Well, I probably make things too complicated. First I spray her 3b/c with some 4 in the back hair with lavender water to get it damp. Then I spray the conditioning spray I made using only the Suave Naturals Coconut Conditioner and water. Then I comb through with a wide tooth comb. Finally, I add a spray gel that I made with the Giovanni LA Natural Styling Gel and water. I actually spray it into my hands, rub my hands together and scrunch in. I've been known to use this technique for second day curl in my own 2b/c hair, although I don't use a wide tooth comb and just finger comb. Okay, so we're trying to do CG on our budget... LOL

I use Suave Kids detangling spray on DD on both wet and dry hair. She has (best I can tell) 2a/2b with great potential for 3a hair.
Just a suggestion, but why not make your own spray detangler by mixing a conditioner that you or your husband likes with water? Put more water than conditioner so that the conditioner doesn't harden up on her hair once it dries and you're good to go.
I just want to do what I want to do when I want to do it.
I found something at Whole Foods called Twinlabs Na_PCA spray. It's basically aloe vera with NaPCA and some other stuff. It's not made for the hair; it's watery but very nice and moisturizing and detangling. Curl Junkie Curl Fuel is another one I like. I bet if you mixed KBB Hair Milke with water you would have a good detangler. I always mix a few pumps with whatever conditioner I'm using.

Playing with my hair is a hobby. Fluffy, fine natural 4a. Goal= Healthy, beautiful hair that retains its length.
Hear that crash? It's me falling off the CG wagon.
i just bought rainbow detangler for kids at whole foods this past weekend and so far so good. i think the reason the kiss my face detangler didnt more harm than good was due to the aloe in it (2nd ingredient) and this one doesnt have aloe at all.

im far too lazy to mix my own, plus we use elucence mb conditioner for ourselves and the protein is too much for her on a regular basis.

Suave kids detangler is cg, and it was basically exclusively what my family used on my hair when I was litle.
Mod CG as of 10/18/08
Using: Suave Naturals, L'oreal Vive Pro Nutri Gloss, LA Looks Sports Gel.

My Indo-Trini cousin's visiting on her way to Toronto. Since I am in total love with her hair, she offered to do my daughters' hair over the weekend. Wouldn't you know it--she was able to use both the 'demon' detanglers, California Baby Detangler and Kiss My Face, on my kids hair without problems. I was shocked.

You guys were right about using California Baby on dry hair!! Thanks for that tip. My cousin also told me not to use those detanglers as I would a homemade conditioner-detangler spray where you spray whole sections and then detangle in sections. She only used those detanglers on the actual knots/tough tangles themselves, and then used a spray leave-in conditioner to finish styling whole head of hair and to moiturize. Geez, I feel like an idiot now...

So, I'm likely going to use the Kiss My Face and California Baby detanglers until they're gone rather than throw them out, but only repurchase the California Baby Detangler.
