Daughter has breakage and frizzies in front among other things!

Hello, I am a new member to this site although I frequently visit and read the forums.

My daughter has 3B hair and it is very thick and long (waist length). The back of her hair is beautiful and curls nicely. Because of how heavy it is, some of the curls are not as defined, but it still looks very pretty. The issue is the front of her hair. I am not sure why it's so frizzy, short from breaking and won't curl. I always end of having to put her hair in a pony tail because I just can't leave it down.

I'm sure the pony tail isn't helping the breakage in the front either. The only products we use are Carol's Daughter. I use Herbal Essence Totally twisted Shampoo once a week and the conditioner 3-4 times a week. She is mixed Hispanic, Trinidadian and Black. She has no frizziness anywhere else in her hair just the front. I wet it and put product in it and it just doesn't curl.

Any ideas on any product to make it curl up or styles I can do on her hair? Or even reasons as to why this happens?

Also, she gets terrible spider knots at the base of her head and sometimes her curls get matted and it takes up to an hour to comb out her hair. Is long layers too much for a 9 year old girl?

Is she using a satin pillowcase or satin scarf at night? If not, that may help cut down on the frizz.

Another suggestion would be to try a different line of products for her. It may not be moisturizing enough for her - or her hair just might not like it. You could also try a different routine with the products. http://www.tightlycurly.com/ has a routine that seems to work well for kids.

You could also try to incorporate an oil (if you don't already). I use one in a spray bottle with a mixture of conditioner and water for my son's frizzy hair.

That website you referred is wonderful. I used her techniques with the conditioner and defining and the front of her hair actually curled up! I did it myself this morning for me and everyone is askingme what I did different with my hair. Amazing how one small gesture can really help another's life. Thank you very much.

I have the same problem as your daughter, frizzes all over the front of my hair, so when it's really bad and showing, I braid it, like the two pictures in this link: http://www.everythingfab.com/2009/03...ming-hair.html
I don't braid all the way down like in the first picture just a little bit and then I use a clip and bring the curls to the front to cover the clip. I bet it will look so cute on your daughter. I actually do this sometimes with my 2 years old even though she doesn't have any frizz problem, but it looks so cute on her little head especially with the different toddler clips I put on her hair.
When I do it on my hair, I use oil and I don't braid it tight, it will only make the problem worst if it's too tight. I actually have been noticing that it's getting longer (finally).

the front part of my daughter's hair has been extra frizzy/not curling as much and i realized that its because ive been putting her hair up or back too much. i just let her wear her hair down for a few days instead of putting her hair in some kind of style and its gone back to normal.

curly hair solutions curl keeper is our holy grail product for frizzies. i love it!

i second the idea of letting her sleep on a satin pillowcase. it really helps with tangles and moisture.
