Chickens for Check ups?

It's pretty common for people who can't afford healthcare to "barter" for basic services. That is, they basically get the check-up for free, but they give the doctor some sort of token, non-monetary payment. It could be a homemade cake, a bouquet of flowers, a bunch of old magazines, or expired canned food.

Of course, this does not take the place of a formal support system for people who can't afford healthcare. No one gets a full round of chemotherapy in exchange for a fruit basket.

I may be having surgery this summer. Since it's just my thyroid, I wonder what I should offer him? Will I have to barter with the hospital too?

If you barter sex, is it prostitution?

If it's aimed at me, I think you should reread what I wrote. As I said, what I described is not really bartering. It's a token payment that mainly serves to make the patient feel better about accepting charity.

It wasn't directed at anyone in particular.
That woman is an idiot. We cannot obtain comprehensive medical care for everyone by encouraging chicken bartering.

This is just one more in a long string of ridiculous Republican alternatives to healthcare reform. Most of them were suggesting charity. At least this one includes payment.

But...I'm confused...are we talking live or dead chickens here? Because I just bought 2 Purdue Oven Stuffer Roasters today, on sale for buy-one-get-one-free. Maybe I could eat one and use the other for a pap smear? Ya think?

That the chickens were on sale diminishes the monetary amount. Getting it on sale then bartering it as if you paid the full value is probably illegal under the Snowden Act.
Yes, Ms./Mr. Spammer, a haircare forum aimed at women is a great place to advertise WOW gold!
the washington post's eugene robinson has the best rebuttal of this idiotic bartering idea that i've read so far.

In short, the characteristics of the powerful, whatever they may be, are thought to be better than the characteristics of the powerless and logic has nothing to do with it.

I'm cuckoo for Coco Puffs.
When Lowden was an anchorwoman I guess the could have paid her in chickens. Maybe she should accept her State Senator salary in barter. What a great idea! I'm sure Nevadans could get a goody bag together for her and save the state some money.
