Default 9/11 memorial NYC

Just wanting to get some opinions on this (maybe I'm just biased).. my husband and coworkers/friends (firefighters) wanted to go to the 9/11 10yr anniversary remembrance ceremony.. they were told they couldn't because mayor Bloomberg stated that no fire, police, rescue worker are invited... but don't they have a right to be there? I'm pretty pissed and butt hurt over it.. these men still cry to this day about losing 343 members of their fire family... maybe I'm wrong

What's Bloomberg's reason for not inviting firefighters and police officers? I thought if anything they should and would be allowed to come. They are a big part of that tragedy. They risk their lives everyday but that day shows America and the world just how great and courageous they truly are.

While it does suck, the reason why makes it more understandable.

He's reason is that he's an a**hole. He hates all Civil employees. He thinks of us as a way of "wasting" city money even though we are providing services to the people of this city. You should have seen his tirade against the teachers this year. Not inviting police and firefighters to the memorial is the most vile thing he could have done. Like Dennis Leary said, they weren't invited on Sept. 11 either and they showed up anyways. Let's not forget too that these same men and women after working for days in very dangerous conditions have become very sick with time and the city has turned their backs on them. It's such a disgrace.

This doesn't make me feel favorable toward Bloomberg. What is his reasoning? I can't understand why they aren't invited.

Is it because they need the emergency workers on standby in case of an emergency? That's the only reason I could come up with.

On the phone! Sorry for teh errerz.

Me neither... there wasn't "any room" for any/all of the ppl who died in the towers! Everyone should be remembered!

Totally agree.. if there's ever a fire or emergency at the Bloomberg mansion, maybe fire rescue/ambulance/police will be too busy to assist.

Hahaha! That's exactly what I was thinking... with me being a paramedic and my husband a firefighter I thought it would be too off color for me to say it!

Are you sure that's the reason?

Yes he released a statement that the ceremony will be for "victims families" only... all emergency persons will get a ceremony at another undetermined time...
