I don't trust the government OR the corporations- seems they work together to help each other out while the citizens of our country are hung out to dry. It seems Obama's solution makes more sense- to stop helping out the corporations and feeding our money to wars, and start helping the people that really need help - our people. I don't think the government needs to control us in order to help, but we need guidelines to protect people. But I agree with Speckla, too, that people need to help people- we can't depend on the gov't, because they just aren't dependable. (ex. Katrina) Unfortunately, sometimes we can't depend on other people either, since so many of us are greedy and turn our heads on another's pain. Seems we just can't win.

Sorry, I'm just depressed today. I wish the gov't didn't have to get involved, I wish everyone had the same opportunities, I wish everyone were compassionate and would help other people, I wish everyone had time to help other people- sometimes we are too busy just trying to survive ourselves, people are suffering, people are fighting, the environment is suffering, animals are becoming extinct, this is life, this is what we live with, this is what depresses me.
There's greed in large corporations and in the government. I don't think large corporations should have to pay taxes out the nose nor do I think they should be allowed to get away with things due to their $$ or influence. There needs to be accountability on both sides. These large corporations are what provide jobs to the vast majority of Americans. They need to make money to be able to pay a decent wage and still operate. Charge them more money and they pass that extra cost onto the consumers and their employees (less pay, lower benefits). Greed on the higher levels is what causes people to stuff their pockets with profits that could benefit the whole company/country. Charge the oil people more money and we'll pay higher gas prices.

I think the government allowing these bogus home loans without proof of income or the ability to pay back adds to the economical problems. The whole system of borrowing money and how credit is really made is a large part of the problem. The dollar being off the gold standard seriously decreases its value and introduces inflation. Borrowing vast amounts of money from other countries. Spending millions of dollars wastefully (on both political sides)... on and on.

Change is possible and a solution is not impossible. Write to your local congressmen and let them know what you want and how you want it done. We're not powerless. Vote for whichever candiate you agree with the most. Change does not happen all at once but a slow procession over time. Sudden change right now would introduce chaos because we've been set up on this system for so many decades. But a sound solution has to be found that both sides can agree on. Ok, forget sides left or right, we're all Americans and need to find a solution.

Amen to that! I think we all agree on the basic principles that we do want to help others that want to help themselves or are unable to help themselves. We want a country where we can strive for success, where we can all have equal opportunities, where we can take care of our people AND not waste money on unnecessary BS. All we can hope for is a happy balance- we don't need all these extremes- one way or the other, IMO.

[quote=CurleeDST;766690]Susan your post is highly ignorant and offensive. Black people DO take care of their own. Black people have been devastated by handouts? Are you serious? As if the majority of black people do not get up, go to work, face RACISM daily, earn a living to take care of their nuclear and extended families?

Your silly post disgusts me.

The majority of ALL families of ALL colors do get up every day and take care of their families. Black families have been disporporationately affected by welfare. it's not right. It's NEVER been right, but if you read statistics, you'll find that the black community was 'targeted' for lack of a better word in the '60s as part of civil rights, I guess, but it has not given the community a hand up like it was intended to...and that is wrong. It doesn't matter the race of anyone that is trodden down by welfare, it's not right.
But I am not wasting my breath as you don't care.

Not really sorry you found it silly, I found yours ignorant
