Default Did McCain say he aspires to be a dictator?

While doing some searching on youtube, I stumbled across this video from Sept where McCain appears to be talking about the financial situation. Anywho....during part of it, it sounds like he says " If I were dictator..which I always aspired to be..."

Is that what you hear as well? Its around the 35second mark.

Well...if he were to win, Bush has worked gov't in the direction of dictatorship, so it's not really so much of a stretch to become one.

I saw this a while ago on YouTube too. I also thought that was what he said. I've only seen it talked about on he dailykos.com so don't know that it's at all reliable.

Do you think he meant "Dictator" as in someone dictating a law/book/whatever? He goes on to say something about writing, so it follows I guess..

not a great choice of words, either way :P

Yeah, I think that's what he was referring to, that he always tries to be the person actually drafting or writing a bill. Or in his case, I guess, dictating it to someone actually capable of using a computer.

I guess in that context it makes sense. Though after Bush's "I'm the Decider" you'd think he'd have worded it better. Don't they have people that write their speaches anymore?

Wow. Way to make fun of someone disabled in the service of our country. Nice.

FWIW, my older sister is rapidly losing her ability to keyboard on a computer due to rheumatoid arthritis. She has been checking into speaking software for several years as she knew this day was coming...and they are all hard to use, take literally months to operate and you still have to manipulate the keyboard. I worked for a law firm that spent a lot of money investing in speaking software. BIG waste of money.

lol, no joke.

Susan, Koukla MIGHT have meant something completely different from the assumption you jumped to. I can't be sure, as I didn't say it, but I took her comment to mean McCain doesn't know how to use a computer. *shrug* maybe that's just me, and it's natural for me to assume that a 72 year old man might be computer illiterate considering my own age.

Either way, it might be best to consider every aspect before jumping to that kind of conclusion and attacking without provocation.

His choice of words is definitely wonky.

When I first heard it, I immediately thought of his wanting to be a dictator like Fidel Castro. I thought this because of his own remarks in his book about just wanting to be president "because". Since he said he always aspired to be "dictator", it made sense to me.

The "I always aspired to be" is what throws off the notion (for me) of telling someone to write his own words for him. That's odd. What do you want to be when you grow up? I want to tell others what to type for me. Odd.

No matter his intentions, it is a very poor choice of words.
