Default All Negative

I live in PA, which is a real battleground state. My phone has rung off the hook today. Normally I screen with Caller ID, but I've been answering it today just for fun, because I know most of them are political calls. Out of the 10 or so calls I answered, they were split roughly in half between the Obama camp and the McCain camp. The Obama calls were all nice live people, kindly reminding me to vote tomorrow, and making sure I know where my polling place is, asking if I needed a ride. The McCain calls have all been nasty robo-calls, spouting the most vile lies. Some of the McCain calls have been disguised as "pollster" calls, starting out asking me typical poll questions, but then launching into vile lies about Obama's abortion and terrorist leanings.

I have to commend Obama for taking the high road throughout this entire campaign. McCain has been horrible, and negative, and divisive to our country. My 16 year old commented on it today, that he has only seen negative messages from McCain, nothing positive, and only positive messages from Obama, nothing negative, and he can't understand why anyone would respond to the negative stuff.

I guess we'll see tomorrow night how well the negative stuff worked for McCain.

Republicans don't even try where I live. It's kind of nice.

Hey, maybe my mother-in-law was one of the McCain pollsters calling you! We live in PA too. She apparently took the whole week off from work so that she could man the phones. My boyfriend was telling me about the "script" she wrote for herself ... just awful. If someone on the phone tells her "we have a divided household" (one for McCain, one for Obama) she responds with: "Well, who's the smart one?"

(rolls eyes)

And she was emailing me Obama-smearing spam (all false, of course). I decided to donate every time she sent me one of those ... I've donated $100 so far.

anyways....I feel your pain ... I hope it will be over soon, I just hope for a fair and swift election!

None of my McCain callers were live. They were all robo-calls.

Same here. And from what I've been hearing from friends in swing states, I'm REALLY glad.

Hmm, why do I find that weirdly comforting? Obama has real people volunteering their free time, but McCain needs a robot.
Maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel...

No but I'm guessing the news probably found its way to her though my boyfriend (which is fine). It was a fun way to donate ... I will probably do it next election too as long as there's a candidate I really like.

I'm in Ohio but for some reason have received absolutely NO telephone calls, whatsoever, from the McCain campaign. I have asked numerous family and friends and no one has received any McCain calls...I am surprised by this given how the poll numbers have been here in Ohio.

On the other hand I have received MANY telephone calls from the Obama campaign. After the third or fourth call to my home from a live person I told them to please take our number off of their list, if possible, so that they could spend time calling actual undecided voters. We planned on voting for the democratic ticket right from the start.

Since then we have only received robo-calls (I would estimate at least two per week for the last 6 weeks) from the Obama campaign but they are always positive. I received a robo-call just today of Obama himself reminding us to vote.

I usually screen calls too, but during this election I have been answering them all. I kept hoping one of the polling agencies would call or I would actually get to hear one of the negative McCain ones, but it never happened.

Yep, Republicans don't have to call anyone in TX. I've gotten Obama calls though, and one was not very nice. I almost wondered at the time if it were really from the campaign or if it was from someone else, because the guy got downright nasty with me.

He was asking me to donate $$, and I explained I've donated what I could money-wise, but since I am not employed, I have instead been supporting the party with my time by volunteering since last November, and I told him all the things I had participated in (long list).

He responded that Obama won't beat McCain with my time, he needs my money. Um... what? What part of "grassroots support" did this person not understand?

I said to him, "oh, really? Cuz when I met Barack Obama, he said to me 'thank you for all that you are doing for the campaign', and that is good enough for me".

I'm in North Jersey, and just this past weekend got my first, and possibly only, political call. It was from the Obama campaign, asking me to get out to vote, and if I would be supporting Obama. The guy was very nice, and I told him to go call on undecideds.

Here, I've gotten negative robocalls from McCain and negative TV ads from both Obama and McCain. The negative TV ads I've seen so far have not been endorsed by the candidates.
