I really didn't like it. I was still crying when he came out to do his speech. Through my sobs I said "What. intha. hell. is she. wearing?"

I love this post! I agree with you 100%! And maybe one day we'll get to see her hair without the blow out!

I wasn't crazy about it, but I would have liked to see her in it without the cardigan. That might have helped. One of the entertainment shows last night showed a clip of the dress on the runway (a Narcisso Rodriquez, I think), and while it still wasn't to my taste it wasn't that bad.

I kind of like it. It's different and I don't think it looks bad.

Maybe she chose that dress because it was the only one she could find that matched the chosen Red/black theme that the family wore.
I thought Barack was wearing a navy blue suit? Then again, I could be wrong, I didn't get to watch the speech until almost 3 am

I thought his suit was black but I could be wrong on that. either way he was wearing a red tie. One girl was in black, the other in red and Michelle in Red and black.

It wasn't that bad. But then again, I like bold colors and bold styles. When I used to visit the hill, I was often the only one in bright colors. Everyone else my age had on black, black, black, and maybe gray. I look forward to having someone in the whitehouse with some daring ideas about fashion and I hope they don't kill her spirit.

AND she looks hippy because she IS hippy. Get used to it America. Many AA women have that shape and it's just fine with us

And the girls are natural. I love the versatility of their hair. I do not think America is ready for Michelle w/o a blow-out. I'll be interested to see how she plays it over time.

Haha, my friend works in fashion and this is the first thing she said when they came out. Of course we all picked on her for that!

I said the same thing. Aside from her dress, her hair and make-up looked great. I think she's pretty. She has a really warm smile.

okay i'm biased because i love her and i'm SO glad that the first lady is a black woman!!!! but anyway, i actually liked the dress. let me explain. first off i love red. i liked that her dress was not the solid business suit look. the dresses she wears make her seem more like a woman/mom than a corporate type that i get from the hilary type suits (i loved hilary and even palin's suits but they were running for office). i thought the black on the outside gave the optical illusion of an hour glass but drew your eyes toward the center making her curves less dramatic. i thought the black in the middle also accentuate and made her waist look smaller.

on another note: the youngest daughter is ALWAYS smiling and so happy. i LOVE that and hope 4 years from now she's still smiling and being sweet.

You're so funny. I liked it to. It was in the paper this morning and I just didn't see the big deal. Someone else said she should have worn a pant suit, but I'm all about the bold and beautiful! None of that drab mess!

Really, I didn't think that dress emphasized her hips at all. If anything, the opposite with the black sides.

I thought the dress was too big for her in the middle, at least that was the effect it seemed to have. I liked the dress - it was just unflattering!

Did anyone else expect to see them in blue, not red?

yes! that's what i didn't like. it didn't flatter her through the middle. i'm all for the bold choice and not looking like a stepford politician wife. but to me, the dress wasn't doing her any favors.

I thought they'd be decked out in blues too!!
Personally, I think the dress would have looked better if the mid section was light blue instead of red... (then again I just don't like wearing the color red)

I thought the dress looked unflattering on her. It looked better in the runway shot I saw of it--I think the jacket she wore kind of obscured the shape of the dress.

But I like that she made an edgy, personal choice instead of going with something boring and safe.
