Most Americans are against a ban on face veils. In contrast, majorities in several Western European countries are in favor of such a ban.

This might have been posted before, since I didn't read through the thread but....
The Land! The United States has a HUGE variety of geography, natural wonders, incredible scenery, and pristine wilderness! Subtropical Florida, arctic Alaska, the stark beauty of the Southwest, the App. Mnts, salt marshes, the endless prairie, miles and miles of forest. I could spend my whole life exploring all 50 states and not get tired of it.
Good grief, let's hope we can preserve and conserve as much as we can.

LOL! Instead of wracking my brains for something deep and meaningful I'm just going to quote this gem!! If a country ever nukes us, I can die a slow, painful death secure in the knowledge that the suckers who threw the first A-bomb are going down too

Memorial Day 2011
As I take time to reflect about military members who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our nation and our way of life, I am truly humbled by their selflessness.
They will never be forgotten!

Its true America has alot of problems, but i love the fact we can have hope that one day it will and can get better.
I also love the diversity we have. I was speaking to a co-worker not from here, and she told me how shocked she was at so many different ethic groups she had encountered in her short time here. This is so true. America is a giant melting pot of almost every culture on earth!! There is still so much prejudice here (one of our flaws), but the more the many cultures collide and entertwine the more tolerable America will become.
As a woman, I'm glad i'm here instead of a country were women are third class citizens, somewhere above the dung beetle and below the family pet goat.

My grandad told me to love my country but fear my government. For our Government is no long for the people by the people, but hellbent on a one world government to create ultimate corruption and tribulation.
America is no longer a nation under God, but a prostitute to the rest of the world. There are very few people who hold virtues, ideals, morals. there is almost no middle class. There are jus about as many wealthy individuals as there are people starving on the streets. so why are we still struggling. Why is the government creating a universal economy. Why are they opressing the poor n the weak. Why won't they hear our voices.
I live in grand rapids, michigan n I've never seen the line for the food kitchen n shelters as long as they are these days, in my life. They're voting on a law to legalize prostitution here n they're makin medical marijuana available to everyone and YOUNG CHILDREN. Ftw??

1. There are a few teachers here who educate us on how to read and follow directions. Then again, I guess there's a few who don't teach such things...

A great movie to watch is Act of Valor on this day.

I think the United States has a really cool history. It started out with a little group of people who beat the odds just sailing across the ocean to get here..then eventually went on to decide that they wanted to build their own country from the ground up with funds and resources that, compared to Great Britain, seemed hilariously unthinkable at the time. To everyone's surprise, that little group of American bumpkin colonists went on to win freedom from the British, survive a Civil War, settle the west...it seems like the odds in every event in American history were ridiculously low, but...they did it
oh, and we make some pretty awesome movies XD

^ What about the people who were displaced when the colonialists arrived, and later when the west was settled? You forgot about them. That wasn't so awesome of the colonialists. In fact, it kinda blew.
What about the people who were enslaved to make this country successful and wealthy? The people who came here of their own free will couldn't have "made this country what it is" without them!
Oh wait, this is one of those "feel good" threads, innit? We're not allowed any sort of reality check, just the stuff that ignores all the ****ty things this country has done. Right.

I remember the attack on our country as if it happened yesterday. I wondered then: 'is this the beginning of the end of the U.S.A.?'
Then today, as in past years, while watching ceremonies, public and private, and listening to speeches, I remembered someone quoting Abraham Lincoln:
“America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.”
We're still standing. God bless the U.S.A.!
