One Good Thing about the United States is...

Like Tree31Likes

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

This thing states clearly that only members of "a well regulated Militia" are to be allowed to "keep and bear Arms". We all know that is a clear reference to the members of the armed services of today, they replaced the officially sanctioned militias in existence at the time the document was written.

Says nothing about hunting, sports, collecting, or protecting your home against imagined threats.
At this point I'm not sure. Probably freedom of speech. Freedom to pursue happiness.

One bad thing. Our government cannot be toppled by the people.

These are my curlfessions

And it's an okay place to be if you poor, hungry, homeless, and disabled. There are worse places to be if you are any of that. Far worse places to be.

She is essentially homeless-staying with people she knows and has moved 7 times in a year with her kids (after losing her job and being evicted). There isn't any help available, there is no government housing and Section 8's waiting list has been closed to new additions for over 3 years.
That we allow this is ridiculous, in other states and in Canada, she'd get assistance securing suitable, affordable housing.
How many countries do you know of that includes the "pursuit of happiness" in their constitution? That's one good thing about the United States in my mind.

I thought VA was federal program that operated under federal guidelines

Also there is a VA program that issues housing vouchers (VASH) that is separate from state programs. Have your friend talk to a Social Worker with VA.

I love this country. As a 50 year old Black women I celebrate the election of our first Black president. You don't have to like the man or his policies but it makes me proud to see how far this country has come AND YES I KNOW WE HAVE A LONG WAY TO GO..........

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

When I made a list of what to be thankful for, even the little things, I was surprised of how I am truly blessed and continue to be. I especially thank God for giving our forefathers the wisdom to establish our constitution, and our country.

I am thankful to live in a country that still observes Thanksgiving! I'm also thankful for our service men and women who keep us safe, and though we are not perfect as a country, at least we have the freedom and opportunity to change.

I am deeply grateful to live in the US, especially because I am a woman and Jewish. Thank you to all who sacrificed so that I can live free.
