Should or will Obama take control of the internet?
Well, I guess I'm personally being selfish in wishing he would. I would love to see sites like myspace and youtube go away since they've brought me nothing but misery. It would make most people unhappy though to lose those sites. As long as we still have personal email and of course naturallycurly.com, I would be happy.
Ok...I guess this isn't so much a serious political topic...or is it?

Maybe it's a silly question, but why does the fact that myspace or youtube exist cause you misery? Do they really affect your life if you're not participating in them?
I think there are some things on the internet that could stand for a bit of regulation, but to eliminate things like that is just silly to me. It's like anything else... if you don't like it, don't do it. I'm curious if there are other circumstances though that makes that mindset not work for you.

Is this something you're coming up with on your own, or is this based on a news event?

I must have missed something in the news. What's going on? Do you have a link?

Jesus, do you ALWAYS have to jump in and be SO vehement in your comments from the get go? At least work up to it, rather than jumping to insane conclusions and throwing your outrageous and intentionally inflammatory comments at everyone like that... oy.

I don't think it will happen. The internet, for good or bad, is a place of free expression. The only things that could be done is tighten reporting regulations etc.
MySpace and YouTube do not inherently cause misery. Stupidity and abusing those services does.

Heres a tip: calm down and take a deep breath, drink a cup of water and relax.
Don't take it so seriously

I'm still waiting for the OP to reply on whether this is based on anything she's actually heard in real life. I've not heard anything remotely like it in the news at all.
Paula, you seem to think that things on the internet that you don't like are inherently bad somehow. This isn't the first time you've mentioned this, things like myspace making you miserable.
I think you need to get over that and take responsiblity for your own feelings and your own life. It's not the things in your life that make you miserable, it's your reaction to them. You're in charge of your own happiness.
Stop blaming the internets for your problems!

sorry, but adding "lol" at the tail end of your posts doesn't make your statements any less than what they are. Though indeed a joke, I don't think they're exactly what you're trying to infer.
But if it makes you feel better to say it's all a funny joke, more power to you I guess. I just don't understand the stance you take on basically every political topic that comes up. Hard not to take it seriously, considering the tone of every post of yours I've seen on this board.

Sheesh my goodness hasn't anyone done their research? There really ARE articles out there regarding this topic:
http://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.p...w&pageId=93966
That's not to say that it holds true, but the subject is out there. So I threw in my own 2 cents (yes, partly as a joke since there are some aspects of the internet I don't like as much as others) and ppl here have taken me way too seriously.

One opinion piece ≠ news articles.
And as you've gone on about the "dreaded internets" before and I paid attention to your complaints, I presumed this was an extension of that.
Now I hear I'm not supposed to take things you say seriously. Duly noted.

Nothing is outside of Obama's control.
Seriously, though. What do you guys think would happen if some of the big-use websites were to suddenly go down? I'm thinking Ebay and Facebook off the top of my head.

I'm sorry, but how on earth are YOU able to determine exactly what I'm thinking in my statement and that I'm blaming the internet for my problems? Has it occured to you that maybe I DO keep up with what else goes on in the world (things like the Megan Meier case, Victoria Lindsay beatings, etc.)?
I think YOU need to be more educated in what's going on in the world.

No, I don't think the president(whomever he/she might be) or anyone else should control the internet! I pretty much want the government out of my life as much as possible anyway, though. I would fear government control, not so much because of the "big brother" aspect, but given how inefficient government usually is, can you imagine how slow the internet would become? Downloading would become like standing in line at the DMV, the freaking World Wide DMV, sign me up for that party plate o'fun!

I'm trying to figure out why someone who belongs to a party that believes in free speech and civil liberties would then turn around and "take control" of the internet.
