Scott Brown wins in MA

I guess no one here has ever checked out DU or the Daily Kos.

The person who lost it and defriended is conservative in all three instances. In each case, the liberal person was saddened and disappointed to lose their perspective. There was no "Ha! Good riddance!" attitude. Far from it.

I can't even talk to my mom about anything political. At all. It always degrades into her yelling and ranting about something. Ad hominem galore. We have an otherwise wonderfully supportive and mutually respectful friendship. Even when things get a little political, we can sometimes get through it unscathed. But it's very, very touchy — not on my part, but on hers. Why is that?

I'm going to keep saying this until I'm blue in the face: we need to work together. In my view, the conservative side is severely lacking in meeting their responsibility for promoting reasonable discourse. They are a party without a leader and in a downward [if not a death] spiral. And they're taking everyone down with them. But we need them, we need their reasoned perspective. Not this histrionic, conspiratorial, paranoid BS that seems to rule the day.

What really needs to happen is that reasonable Republicans need to take back their party. I'll still disagree with them, but WHAT a relief it will be to debate them rationally.

There seems to be a very short attention span here. Liberal writers were writing books called How to Kill President Bush. How is that not mean spirited? People said god awful things about him... yet it's not ok when it's Obama. I don't believe in lowering myself to make fun of Obama or attack him on a personal level (such as family members, the color of his skin, etc.). Perhaps because of where you get your news you don't see the nasty stuff that gets thrown from your side. But there is plenty to go around from both sides and that doesn't make it right. You should really look into it more before stating the the left doesn't do this to the same degree. Liberals are constantly calling anyone who doesn't agree with them gun toting, religious whack jobs, uneducated, rednecks, homophobes, racist, sexist, etc.
I'm not going to even argue this point with anyone anymore, tonight I lived it. Alienation from my own mother. Thank you Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh et al.

This is happening all over the country, people. It's not funny anymore. And these azzholes are just trying to make money, while families are literally being torn apart, including my own.

I couldn't get through to her at all. She's completely lost to us. She doesn't see anything beyond the limited POV she's getting from talk radio.

Scarlet, earlier you said that no one checks the DU or the Daily Kos. I didn't say so earlier, but I don't even know what the DU is. And I never read the Daily Kos. So, no, I don't check them. Meanwhile, my mother listens to conservative talk radio morning, noon and night.

People are sick of the stuff that is going on in DC right now. I can't blame them but it doesn't make sense to follow anyone blindly without thinking for yourself. Sorry about your mom. I listen to both of those people but I refuse to follow either one blindly. There are many times I disagree with them.
If you feel like bragging about a racist, sexist homophobe who posed naked in Cosmo, have at it.

It pisses me off that if he were a she and had posed in Playboy, the moral outrage would have been deafening.

It is interesting that Mass. already has healthcare reform so even if he votes against the national bill, the people in his state are still covered.

I'm laughing because I know if Scott Brown was a Democrat and he showed his Man Boobs in a magazine and tried to pimp out his daughters on TV, you'd be all over that. And a double standard does exist regardless of what party you are a member of. A woman never would have gotten away with this.

Here is his layout for those of you who haven't seen it. His privates are covered (Thank God):

Speaking of nice liberals who never get mad at their family members. This is what my nephew sent me, just before he defriended me on Facebook for discussing the possible problems with nationalized health care:

But, all you brain dead, religious fanatic, knights templar, republican f**ks can just rot in your own hell.

Define 'racist and/or racism'.

MA had a huge voter turnout...just because many people who are dependent on the government for handouts were not motivated to turn out, it is not fair?

Independents put Obama in the office. And yes, his personal popularity is very high. He seems to be a very likable, charismatic person. BUT, his politics and policies are not popular. The government is overreaching and intruding and people don't like it. At this rate, I'm not happy that the government has my SS number or address.

Coakley and her crew had voter complaint forms filled out the day before the election. I'm surprised she didn't fight harder though. She conceded 2 hrs after polls closed & I have never heard of that.

And the Democrats STILL don't get it.

Decidedly more ranty. Liberals strike me as more chill.

I mean, look at this thread. Geez, CTFO.

Maybe it's because the party's been on a death spiral, so they're feeling all underdoggy or something.

R-E-L-A-X, my little conservative friends. You'll live longer and be able to send more of your kind to the Senate! Yay!

And again, take a look at this very thread. And many political threads on here. It's almost always the conservatives who go on some sort of ad hominem, ranty tear, not the liberals.

I just have very little patience for people who just want to whine but aren't contributing anything. Whether it's a perception problem, I don't know, but that's how conservatives are coming across these days.

OTOH, my boss can't decide whether to call him Obama or Osama so he uses them both...and I correct him gently each time (I have to be careful...he's 69, stroke survivor & early stages of Alzheimer's, so I have to be judicious when correcting him...even if I am here temp)

I think what might be driving perceptions is that what one might see as passion or commitment to an issue when we agree with someone, we misinterpret or judge as anger when we don't agree.
