you definitely can minimize existing stretch marks. and depending on how slight your marks are in color and texture, you may even reduce them to the point where you can barely see them.
abrading the stretch-marked area with exfoliation to the point where you "pink up" your skin, followed by a deep, circular massage with a rich oil, cream, or balm is key. i've found this to be successful with surface stretch marks, not the ones that are like pitted grooves. but even on the more textured, sunken marks, this will help them look better than if you did nothing. i have a thin grooved mark above my navel from my second pregnancy. it will probably be with me forever, but the tone of it has definitely blended in with the surrounding skin since i've been doing this, which makes it less noticeable than before.
you don't want to exfoliate daily. no more than twice a week, and space the treatments days a part to give your skin a chance to rest.
in addition to doing this, it helps to exercise and become tone in those areas that have marks. but that's just good advice for good overall health anyway.
i simply use baking soda and a nylon textured body exfoliating pad. i use grapeseed oil because it's a toning oil; olive works well too. i'm allergic to coconut oil, but if i weren't, that would be my number one oil to use.
the key to this treatment is the intentional pinked-up marks with exfoliation, the rich oil or cream, and the deep, circular massage. the exfoliation causes your skin to renew skin cells; the oil keeps the skin conditioned and helps the new layer of skin to match its original tone during the treatment process. some people use stretch mark creams with their massage. whatever you can afford and you prefer. i'd just make sure it's rich and/or formulated for the results you want.
i massage even on the non-exfoliating days.
anyway, marked improvement will depend on your consistency with treatment, your particular skin, the type of marks you have, and the oil product you use.
