I wish him a quick discharge from the hospital, so you can bring him home and love on him. I know how distressing it is to be home without your baby.

Thank you for all of the warm thoughts everyone. He is still in NICU, but doing very well. I got to give him a little sponge bath today for the first time and he was so good. We are still waiting on him to eat will consistently - he's been eating a full feed one time and then the next getting sleepy half-way through. Once he gets a couple of good feeds in in a row, they'll just watch him to make sure he's gaining and then he can come home! Tomorrow I'm hoping to meet with a lactation consultant so we can hopefully make the transition from expressed breast milk to breastfeeding. Wish me luck!

goldy - I guess it went well. Since he was struggling to eat at all, even with the bottle, I'm taking it really slow - just trying BF once or twice a day when he seems up to it. He has been trying for 10ish minutes and then getting sleepy/frustrated and I switch him to the bottle of pumped milk. He's getting better at it each time though - there's less of a "what the heck is this" kind of reaction these last couple of days. Pumping is a pain, but I'm pretty determined to work with him and stick with it until we can transition. He's definitely more hungry and easier to feed since we've been home though, which is a huge relief. And he had gained weight steadily before discharge, even up past his birth weight by an ounce as of early Saturday morning. Based on how he's been eating, I'm sure he'll be up several more ounces at his ped. appointment on Tuesday.

Ethan got weighed yesterday and is up to 8lb4oz! He's growing like a little weed and doing great.
I also had two postpartum visits - one with the hospital OB and one with my midwife. The OB's nurse did a speculum exam that hurt A LOT and actually tore something and made me bleed. It wasn't from the pap either - it was much lower. :/ Before that I wasn't in any pain at all, so I was pretty upset. All of that is done though, so now I'm appointment free for a good while which makes me very happy.
