Inducing Labor

Like Tree5Likes

Thank you! I went to the doctor today for an appointment and NST. Again, baby performed very well. Also, my blood pressure was 110/74. She started to talk about times to induce today, but I quickly objected to that. Then, she said she wanted to do it August 9th because she is on call then. I asked her if there was any later date that she was comfortable with. The next date she said she had was August 16th. She's not thrilled about it, but she said that she could do that day. Since she is due August 18th anyway, I'm happy with that. Of course, if anything goes wrong, I will be ready for baby earlier. Hopefully, she will come on her own right before that.

If I were in your shoes, I'd be using lots of evening primrose oil, to try to get the cervix ripe. 3 capsules inserted intravaginally at bedtime is the usual dose. And I'd be spending lots of time in hands & knees position, trying to get the baby anterior and ready for delivery.

My last baby waited until my husband HAD to be out of state for a couple days before he would agree to labor starting. Yeah, that was a harried 3 hour drive home for my husband, who had to listen to me yell and whine in his ear on the phone the whole way. He made it home in time...barely.
I agree with RCW, if the doctor is willing to wait over two weeks for this "medically necessary" induction, why is it necessary? If the baby keeps looking good at non stress tests and your blood pressure stays at a good level, I would try not to do it, period.

Are you dialated at all?

I agree with everyone. I'm just happy that for now I got her to hold off until just two days before the due date. I wasn't dilated. Without asking, she decided to stretch me a little bit. I was NOT happy.
I have great empathy for you and wish you all the best. Is it possible for you to refuse vaginal checks? I never had one in my most recent pregnancy and was never informed if I was dialating effaced etc. I just wasn't important to me and I never asked about it. I just figured that it would just set me up for being ancy about the baby arrival time. Is that something you would consider?

I can ask her not to do them, but they are her standard procedure and she has been pushy all along. I don't love the regular checking thing, but it was the sudden, "We'll call that the fingertip. Just helping speed things along," thing that really bothered me. I think she needed to talk to me first before she did that. She said it might cause some spotting and not to be alarmed. It hurt and it did cause some bleeding. I still feel a little "weird" a day and a half later.
