Most people do not think about that stuff or have no clue that they are supposed to know. I remember a woman asking me about that, and I told her to make sure the size would be appropriate for the season if she was going to buy a bigger size. She said she had never thought about that.

A family friend bought Marley a HUGE snowsuit type jumper for Marley when she was born. It was a size 3T I think. She is an older lady, so I'll let her off the hook....I remember her saying she wanted to hurry up and get it to me before if "got too small."

It's still sitting in the closet.

If your daughter was born in July, maybe she thought that a 12 mo. size would fit your daughter in Jan/Feb - you said your daugther is bigger? I have always had to buy things 6-12 months "bigger" for my nephew.

No, my kids are petite. They usually lag behind by 6 months to a year in size. I agree with J'adore. Some people just don't consider the season when buying large clothes for a newborn.

If you are going to buy season clothes it needs to be on season. I've learnt that the hard way. My son was on the small side and everything seasonal that I bought ahead for him didn't fit him on time. The clothes I bought for this summer and going to fit him sometime this winter.

We also go an adorable snowsuit for DS. It was in size 6M and he was going to be 6M in the summer. However, we lived in California!!

I totally forgot someone gave us a 12 month snowsuit. Chas was born in August??? Plus we live in Texas and maybe need a snowsuit once a year if that? I guess I'll sell it....we have no use. It's hanging in the closet right now.

In the winter I was going through some summer clothes that were sized 6 months - DS was born in Sept '06. I put them aside thinking 'He's going to be way to big for these in the summer - what were people thinking!' As I got ready for our move two weeks ago, I found the summer clothes and they wound up fitting him perfectly! It was good timing too because we were in the middle of the hottest July on record.

So I guess I've come to the conclusion - if you aren't sure what size to buy as a gift, ask the mom!
